My stereo rattles terribly, I also have the “upgraded” system that sounds much worse than the JBL stereo in our 08’ 4runner....

I need to do some investigating as to where the rattling is coming from. The only solution I have found so far, is turning the volume up so high that the rattles are drowned out...

!!UPDATE!!

So picked up the car from dealer for the weekend as the shop foreman is out until Tuesday and apparently he is the only on qualified to work on the Supra. Totally fine with that.

I sat down with the service advisor and the service manager and pointed out the speaker/mat vibration, the creak when putting into D/R/P, and the tin vibration under the center tunnel was noted as well.

The car is brand new and no one really has worked or identified issues at Toyota yet, so I get it. Glad they heard and noted the issues with me though. They will present everything to the foreman next week and I will drop car off again.

One thing I noticed today after a 15 minute drive in sport, with a five minute drive in comfort to let everything cool down before parking and shutting off vehicle. When car is idling in either sport or comfort there is a loud popping every couple seconds from the exhaust (axleback area). Almost like some rock or piece of metal pops/jumps every couple seconds. It’s very weird. I don’t know if it’s normal and others have noticed with the Supra?

I have a video here, but it won’t let me upload it :(. Hope the link works.

Cheers,

-V
Any other Supra owners notice this sound when driving for a little while in Sport mode?

I am thinking it is the exhaust muffler area that just gets so hot that it pings and tings until it gets cooler? My dealer said that is exactly what it is, but it is just so loud. Just want to make sure this is normal?

I think a new exhaust system will cure this issue, but we shall see.

Thanks,
-V

So, I fixed the bass rattle in one of the Supras I had access to buy pulling off the subwoofer cover and separating the solid grill insert from the decorative "spokes" cover. They just clip into each other and can be separated if you just carefully pull them apart. Then I reinstalled the "spokes" decorative cover and the rattle was gone. This isn't a permanent solution as now the sub is exposed to garbage getting inside, but it does at least isolate the issue to the speaker grille. There may be some foam/padding/glue that one can use to fix this but I haven't gotten a chance to properly try and fix one yet.
Have you found a permanent solution to this yet @Guff?

When looking for rattles I’ve found this track to be pretty helpful:

Still trying some of the solutions here as well as messing around with other areas to see if I can isolate any more fixable noise.

Nah need to get a Supra first lol. The one I tested this on was a pre-production car I was driving.

My car had been completely quiet, but I noticed today after it sat in the sun that it had some creaks for a bit after getting underway. Maybe some of the adhesives had softened.

It quieted down though. I haven’t really experienced rattles like those being reported here.

Same here, my car is very quiet. No rattles from the speakers as well. Hope it stays that way.

Must be nice lol...

I am having terrible luck so far. Between the speakers, the chassis creaking inside the cabin, the window rattles, and the exhaust ticking.

I have the worst luck with cars.

Still haven't heard back from Toyota.

Guessing a few more visits and will have to look into lemon.

We need to start a thread of all the people with stereo rattles. It is absolutely terrible.

If you aren’t sure if you have rattles or not, play the song, “Bad Guy” by Billie Eilish. It came on the radio today, regardless of volume, nothing but rattles.

I got so fed up, I downloaded the song as my “control,” parked the car in the garage, (with the song on repeat) dug around in the trunk, behind the seats, and on the sub box trying to locate the source of the rattles.

I would push on one area of the sub box and the rattle would just move to another location. Regardless of what I did, the rattles won’t leave my car.

I need a bass rattle exorcist.

When the stereo isn’t on, the car is quiet, no rattles or squeaks.

(eq setting is close to flat on the low frequencys)

I too was hearing some rattles, which I first thought were coming from the driver door. I realize that they're actually coming from the seat belt.
There is a sleeve on top of the seat belt to seat connection. I think it's inadequate, but re-positioning it solved the issue for now, until it gets out of place again.
my 2 cents.

Thanks for the info.

I suspected some rattling and creaking coming from the seat belt as well, but thought I was going crazy.

I will check this out tomorrow and see if I can move the sleeve. Is the sleeve visible?

Thanks,

Solved my rattles. They didn’t secure the rear mounts for the cargo cover correctly during PDI. I snapped in on both sides and now it’s rattle free

**UPDATE**

So I took my car to the dealer last week to address the sub/speaker issue.

They had a Toyota warehouse tech come in and inspect the issue. They basically took the mat/carpeting around the subs behind the seats off and added more insulation in specific areas. This basically completely fixed the issue on the sub drone/rattle. So thank you to my dealer for nailing that out of the park.

Now I am really left with the lock pin rattle and some other weird rattles that sound like they are coming from the center armrest area and the front windshield area? Very weird. I am planning on re-scheduling some time to drop the car off again and have them take a look. I am too hesitant to take stuff apart myself and attempt to fix as the car is so new.

Thanks,
-V
