Having owned BMWs, most of the issues I have had have been with sensors and electronic gremlins. The bright side is that the labor rates at my Toyota dealer are lower than the BMW dealer.
I owned a 2008 e90 335, purchased new, and let me tell you, that car gave me more problems than all of the cars I've ever owned COMBINED. I take care of my cars too. From low pressure fuel pump, high pressure fuel pump, water pump, thermostat, injectors, ignition coils, something with the a/c where they had to remove the entire dash to fix it, valve gasket, oil filter housing and gasket, something called a mechatronic sleeve on the transmission, both rear window mechanisms, carbon build up, cracked front winshield rubber gasket, rear window rubber gasket becoming loose, angel light going out, and other things that I'm sure I've forgotten.

The way I see it, Toyota/Lexus has an extremely strong reputation for reliability. The engine, transmission, and electronics are not Toyota designed from the ground up. They were designed by BMW and Toyota came in and help modify them to their specifications. Part of this change includes, per Toyota, changes to the B58 engine to make it more reliable and up to Toyota benchmarks. They only said this but have not provided anymore details in this area so we basically have to just take their word so I think it's not a bad idea to buy the warranty if you plan on keeping the car past the original warranty period. I'm holding off on purchasing my car until a few years down the road to see what real life use is doing to the car.

No matter what anybody says, BMW is no where near Toyota in terms of reliability and never will be. That is not part of their business model. With BMW's having the highest lease takers of all manufacturers, they only design their cars to last 3 year/36,000 miles for the owner to return the lease and go into another BMW lease. It's planned obsolescence. Toyota can never go this model because they have built such a strong brand around their reliability that if they ever provided something that wasn't reliable, people would show up in pitch forks.

Let's just hope the B58 and ZF transimission in the Supra doesn't take Toyota by surprise and people start storming the castle because I want the GRMN Supra.

If itā€™s only $1800, the actuarial tables are providing pretty good confidence that nothing is going to happen. You canā€™t fix much on a BMW for $1800...

I kept my E60 BMW for 11 years and it was very reliable. With that said, my buddy had an M4 that was officially a lemon. The engine in the Supra isnā€™t exactly new so hopefully there wonā€™t be any surprises.

I thought the wheel/tire package was about $650?
It's never standardized -- different dealers offer warranties from different companies, plus you can negotiate the price. I always skip stuff like this, but it's comical how low they will drop the price if you play hardball. These are big moneymakers for the dealer.

Yeah I saw anything from $500 to $1250. I got Wheel/Tire/Dent/Windshield/Key for 6 years, $760.

I bought yesterday. Dicker. The initial cost and configuration was stupid expensive.

I had them tailor a lower mileage for me since I donā€™t pile miles on. I had my last car 3.5 years and drove 31,500 miles.

7yr 75K miles for $1800
6yr ā€œplatinumā€ wheel+tire+key for $950

Both $0 deductible.

Cancel that service place immediately if you can. That's double what it should have been. Scroll to pages 1/2 for the details.

I did scroll through and found roughly the same cost. Yes there is a link to a woman who can sell Toyotacare or something ā€œcheaperā€ but who knows. The guy was showing me the screen with his costs for these various plans and I could see which combinations of years and miles were selectable, etc...

Nothing would suggest it can be had for half the cost as you claim.

Since youā€™re in a helpful mood though, please walk me through the steps Iā€™d need to perform to get out of and establish a new warranty plan.

The contact that I posted earlier in the thread was for a dealer and are not selling something "cheaper" as you reference. The plan is the Toyota Extra Care Platinum $0 deductible @acadapter is right you paid 2x what you should have. You should be able to call wherever you bought and just cancel. If it was part of the loan, it is credited back to that. Second is contact Jennifer [email protected] and get a quote. I received all of my paperwork from Toyota a few days after the transaction.

We aren't here to lead you on my friend. The majority of folks here are trying to provide everyone with the best knowledge possible. The cancellation policy for ToyotaCare should have been provided to you; within 30-days full refund. TWarner provided everything else you need. Best of luck.

So a while back when I purchased my warranty from Jennifer, I asked her if my original $1800 price was bad. She replied that no, it was a good price but the deal she is giving us is better than even she can get for a warranty. I asked her why. She explained the owner was giving the forum this pricing because heā€™s such a fan of the brand.

Sounded odd to me, and Iā€™ve been mulling it over.

What if... what if Toyota is concerned with quality and is silently subsidizing forum warranty costs to get all (or a good number) of we vocal (and visible) owners covered through this dealer?

Any other thoughts that might explain this overt act of generosity?
