I was looking at the GT350 and chose the Supra instead.

The GT350 is a bit of a paradox -- the specs push it into an upper group (Corvette, etc), the price lands it in this group, but the interior quality/feel is a letdown across the range. I couldn't even really take Mustang models seriously just because of the interior and some of the overall build quality. On a day to day basis, stuff like that bothers me more than performance impresses me.

This is a big win for the Supra considering one of their stated goals was to benchmark against the Cayman. Is C&D the first to pick the Supra over the Cayman in a review? I remember others where the rankings were reversed, so it's obviously subjective, but I would expect Toyota marketing to be all over this if they want to stay consistent on their messaging.

Folks who follow BMW reviews will notice a pattern here -- M2C reviews great by itself, but throw it in a batch of other sports cars and BMW's incompetence at electric power steering is obvious. That the Supra escaped this curse is perhaps the biggest upshot of the comparison to me -- suspension is one of the notable ways Toyota distinguished itself from BMW and I think this is a good confirmation.

I don't think I have seen a review that picks the base Cayman over the Supra.

AutoExpress chose the Cayman S over the Supra and TopGear reviewed the Cayman GTS but those trims are significantly more expensive to be compared IMO.

Maybe because the Supra is my first sports car I'm biased, but I really don't see why anyone would buy a Cayman unless you were going for the GT4 (I have a nearby neighbor that has a GT4 and I concede, it's a great car, but in a totally different price bracket). Then again, most people probably don't put too much stock into these comparisons, as buying a sports car is much more than just the numbers.

I'm sure despite BMW's trouble with getting good steering feel, there's probably been quite a few people get the M2C. Just like a lot of us bought the MkV despite all the internet rage.

Exactly, it's about more than just performance numbers. A base Cayman is a reasonably light ( or at least not obscenely overweight) fixed-roof mid-engined sports car for semi/almost reasonable $$$, which puts it into consideration for me.
The GT4 is 250 lb. heavier. That's kinda disappointing to me. Not to mention it's way outside of my price range!
