anyone know what the difference is between the blue light and the orange light? Mine is blue almost all the time but once in a while is orange. Both while phone is in there. It also doesn’t seem like it charges very fast.

Should be covered in your user manual. From a BMW manual, blue indicates that it is charging. Orange indicates that the device isn't charging due to a foreign object in the tray or a problem like overheating/etc. The LED will turn off completely if it stops charging or the device's battery is full.

How fast it charges can be a function of the type of device.

I was on a 15 hour road trip so that totally makes sense with orange being overheating. It’s an iPhone X which has been doing that lately with age.

I have a Pixel 3XL and the charging rate is almost non-existent. I will swap and test out the S9 as well. This is usually device specific so I'm not mad.

I have not been impressed with wireless charging on any devices -- seems like it's one of those technologies that is a cool idea but it has a lot of drawbacks (slow charging and overheating being common across the board). I used to wonder why Apple was so late to implement it but now I wonder why they adopted such an imperfect technology. Usually when they implement something half-baked its their own "too ambitious, too soon" technology, not an established open standard!

To be fair, moving electricity wirelessly isn't viable on any platform as a main source of recharging. It should be used as a supplement but hardly as your main option. It will get there; beamforming using magnetic coils to charge within ~3ft will be the new standard with hopefully more promise.

Hi everyone,
this my first post on the forum and am very excited to take delivery of my supra soon hopefully, anyways ..

I would like to get your thoughts on the wireless charger that sits in the front of the middle console if you have it equipped in your car

as actually in our market (Middle east) this feature/option is not available even if you get the full premium package and what not
I suspected that it might have something to do with overheating as it will be a bad idea in our region where temps reach up to 50°c easily so it was taken out for safety reasons maybe

I watched this video from CarGuy11 on youtube where he kinda confirms this and mentions it heats your phone

Did you notice the same issue? do you prefer to have this feature and find it useful or think it's annoying?

I use it all the time. I believe wireless charging always makes the phone heat up, and my iPhone does experience sporadic issues(slowdown, lag) when wirelessly charging; both in car and at my desk. This mostly seems to happen when the battery is pretty low.

Yep, used it once to try it out on the way home. About 30 minutes of having it sit there my Galaxy S8 charged up from 76-96% battery and the phone felt pretty hot to the touch after picking it up. I have not used the wireless charging ever since, due to me using the cigarette lighter outlet for my dash cam. If either the USB port or cigarette lighter outlet are being used, then you cannot access the wireless charging pad at all. Now I have no use for the charging pad and can't really put anything there due to the plastic piece sitting on top the charging pad unless it's removed. This problem could have been easily solved if the outlets and the wireless charging pad were angled away from each other about maybe 120 degrees. Here's what I see in my head.

It really is pretty standard for the phones to warm up during charge with cable or wireless.
I had rented Chevy Impala which has wireless charging slot that comes with cooling. It was impressive to find it on a rental.
One of those things that BMW/Toyota could have implemented... I actually didn't look into how Chevy did it, as it works even when you have heat turned on. I'm thinking they have a tiny heat exchanger in the A/C positioned away from the heating/cooling hexs for occupants..

In both my Supra and A35 the wireless charger does heat up the phone a little. Not enough for it to be a problem though. I like not having to plug it in.

My X gets really hot in the car charger. It has a clear Tech21 case on it. Not sure if the case is the issue or if the alignment isn’t quite right and they put charge coils in a big area in order to make phone position more forgiving.

Either way, the heat makes the phone slow down like crazy and it’s laggy for a little bit after you remove it. Definitely worse than my desktop wireless charger.
