Yes it works perfect, now instead of brightness at night, you get brightness. And it works perfectly...
Searching bmw dim variant will get you guys more info, using bimmercode is very easy, with the instructions in here. I also did the start/stop memory function, and video in motion....

This is from another person and I want him to get full credit for solving this ( Kevin )

Here is how to correct the brightness issue of the iDrive screen during the day. 1- Purchase OBDii Adapter (i used OBDLink MX+) 2- Purchase FULL version of bimmercode app 3- start bimmercode app and connect and select BMW for car 4- select BMW Z4 (G29) 5- select Headunit 6- select Expert Mode at top 7- select 3005 DISPLAY_PIP_CONFIG 8- scroll WAY down and select DIM_VARIANT 9- change setting from NEW to OLD 10- click OK. 11- Then backup on screens to the HEADUnit ECU screen. 12- select CODE at top right. Accept risk and let it do its thing. It will wipe out the 8 hot keys so you will need to remember what you set them to. This will enable the Brightness control to be used during Daytime. It will now say Brightness versus Brightness during Nighttime. If the dealer ever does a ECU flash you will have to redo this
I received my OBDLink today and just came in from coding the car. This works perfectly! Thank you for passing this along.

I never thought to do VIM. Is there a step by step somewhere to enable this? Iā€™m not one to much mess around with code unless I have instructions.

Anyway the Mods can sticky this? Extremely useful information

Mille grazie, vielen Dank, thanks a lot, merci beaucoup.

Bimmercode setting works on a German Supra MKV as well like a charm.

Posted the "trick" on a German form https://www.toyota-supra.de with indication of the source. They will be happy as well.

Again arigato goseimas.

Did anyone hear from their dealer on an official fix? I'm really loathe to mess with my warranty using bimmercode on something that should be pretty easy to fix in software. I'm having the same issue. In full daylight my infotainment screen and gauge cluster are really dim. It's not unusable but I can tell something is not quite right.

This is great to hear! Iā€™ve just bought the OBD plug and I should have it in a couple days. I canā€™t wait to fix this and disable start/stop. Thanks for passing the info along!
Howā€™d it go for you?

The FULL version of BimmerCode was mentioned. I only found BimmerCode (free) and BimmerLink (31.99). Does the free one work?

it was extremely simple. Just followed the instructions above. Hardest part for me was figuring out how to get the car in key on engine off mode. Lol. I downloaded the BimmerCode app then purchased the $32 whatever inside of it. Not sure if the free version works for it as I didnā€™t try.

I just used Bimmercode to reprogram and fix the iDrive screen brightness problem (dim daytime screen) and also removed the annoying startup warning message....Way better screen visibility during daytime now...

I just did the same and it's so much better! One by one, getting rid of every fault and quirk I've found.

Just did the same. Initially BimmerCode was giving me a connection error, but I just had to run the OBDLink app and update my MX's firmware, then it worked perfectly.

I was hoping it would also make the instrument cluster brighter, but it seems DIM_VARIANT only affects the main display. Is there another setting for the instrument cluster?
