There's a lot going for DCT and some of the best automatics these days. They can deal with high power/torque applications as well as manual. They are more gas efficient than manuals. They achieve better magazine test numbers. They shift faster than any human can. Getting harder each year to justify manuals, as much as I prefer them.

But they're also heavier than most manuals.

I searched around and saw one quote say that the BMW M3's DCT is around ~60 pounds heavier than a manual. Don't know how much difference that makes though. Tt's not unsprung weight like wheels/brakes which would have performance penalties.

I'm in the manual transmission camp too for this car but autos have come A LOOONG way.
There's top end sports cars that are DCT only now like the GT-R.

Good discussion.

I don't need a clutch pedal anymore. Maybe it's growing up playing car sims and games, but I"m perfectly comfortable pressing and pulling buttons or paddles to actuate a shift. Actually fels more natural to me than manual now.

Debating manual vs auto is like arguing about politics and religion. No one ever admits they're wrong :) It's all just personal preference anyway.

To each his own as long as Toyota offers both options then everyone should be happy. I'm bored in anything but a manual car and feel completely disconnected letting the car change gears or pulling on a piece of plastic to change gears.

If Toyota sees the light and puts an MT into this car I'd like to see it have rev matching like all the newest MT's have - C7 Corvette, M3, M4, etc

Rev matching is a pretty cool feature on a manual. But can that be disabled if you don't want the car to do it automatically?

Dude, 60 pounds on a 400-500 horsepower car is nothing. Almost splitting hairs here when talking about the weight of different transmissions when comparing their merits.

DCT's may eventually go the way of the manual and dodo bird.
Some automatics are even good enough to replace DCT's now like on the new BMW M x5 / x6. Might as well start having cars drive themselves... oh wait...

Those are trucks. Not exactly the pinnacle of sports car performance. BMW still uses DCT and manual for their best performing cars: M3, M4, M5.

You can on the Vette. Weird implementation tho. On manual cars there's actual flip paddles on steering wheel that you use to turn off rev matching.

Not weird at all. That way you can turn off rev matching while on the track without taking hands off the steering wheel.

I only want a dual clutch, so a DCT-only Supra wouldn't bother me one bit. In fact I'd rather they only offer one transmission since it would make the car cheaper overall and be that much easier when shopping across dealers. The only thing that would really bug me is if they gave us some paddle-shift auto-gearbox like in the ISF and RCF.
