Okay so I contacted my local dealer today and their inventory manager got back to me saying that I just give them my info (no deposit or paperwork yet) and they "hold my place in line" and when they get a car in (which they have no idea what color will be) they'll reach out to me and see if I want it.

For those of you going thru the process:

Does this sound right? Seems a little odd that I have no official statement or confirmation that I have submitted an inquiry and I have no say in what color this car could be because they aren't doing custom orders on them, so it feels like they're shooting from the hip and I'm blind going into this.

A little worried that they won't contact me but if this list is the way to go hopefully i'll have it in the next two months, seems like everyones waiting forever for theirs.

Is this list for all of Toyota and not just a dealer specific list? Open to suggestions and I wonder if I should wait on them or if other dealers have inventory already ready to go that I should actively seek out.

Located in Charlotte, NC and looking for a white premium... Thanks guys

Doesn't sound right to me. I was able to fill out a form choosing the paint color and adding the Driver Assist Package. I gave them a $500 deposit as well. 30 days later my car arrived at the dealership.

I remembered a dealer down south told me the same thing, but 2k additional and I had to wait for the car with no eta. A white premium shouldn't be difficult to get. If really want the car and are willing to travel, def just start calling dealers and take the trip

What's up man. I'm in Charlotte myself and you should definitely go to Rick Hendrick Toyota in Concord. Mine was a no BS purchase with no markup. I didn't have to put money down to get on the list and I received mine over 2 months ago.

They even filled my car up with gas twice after I purchased it.

Hey what's going on! And that's awesome yeah Hendrick of concord is the one I'm working with as they were recommended. You gave them your info over the phone and they contacted you when it was ready?

I think it depends on the dealership as to how they handle your place in line if there are multiple people wanting the car. My dealer was taking $1k deposits to secure the car, MSRP, no markups. They are pretty much ordering 1 Supra for each deposit, Toyota seems to only be sending cars to dealers where there are already buyers lined up or to places where they think the cars will sell (ironic considering some of these dealers marking up)

I'm curious about what Half Vast said about his purchasing experience, I'm assuming that this form was something the dealer had to help them keep track of the process. From what I saw of the order process, the dealers have to go into an online form, put in the basic info of the buyer and then they can select 2 preferred colors, trim level, and yes/no to driver's assistance package. The system then allocates out a VIN to the dealer a few days later. I'm not sure if this was just for the first few shipments or if they plan to keep using it. They probably used Half Vast's form to then fill out the online form and they were able to secure his preferred spec. Most of the cars were already on the boat, so that probably explains the 30 day window. For me, I put my deposit down late July and the car was at the dealer the 2nd week of Sept.

I was recently back at the dealer to pick up some touch-up paint and asked if they had gotten more orders now that the cars are starting to hit the road and he mentioned that the 3rd car had still not arrived and that a lot are getting held up at port inspection. He also mentioned that they had 2 more of the silver coming after that. I'm not sure if the white is common or not, but I'd say it's a safer color to "wait" on if you aren't in a rush. It seems strange to me that they wouldn't at least ask you for your preferred color since that should be something they can try to do for you. If I hadn't bought the car myself already, I would probably just wait for a while longer and see what's out there once the initial buying wave dies out, but there's no harm in at least getting on a list if there's no commitment. No shame in holding out to get what you want when you spend a lot on a sports car.
