Is anyone else worried about the used market on the MKV?

The hype around them along with the fact that it seems a lot of people are ripping on these cars right out of the lot, not to mention all the "DO IT FOR THE GRAM!!!" mods and tunes that are going around. It just seems like it'll be hard to find one that's in good condition and wasn't abused or fitted with gaudy body kits.

I donā€™t think itā€™s really that many that are getting modified as we think. It just seems like that cause most of the youtubers are doing it. Although I agree we need to be careful of the modifications used car as well

The four I know in my area (including mine) got downpipe and tune. I would think a good percentage will at least get that.

I would think the type of person that owns it, on average, would take care of it. The internet implies more people are hooning it then there actually is.

I mean, according to the internet every R35 is a wide body, but in person Iā€™ve seen very few that actually are.

Other than some cosmetic mods mine is stock and I plan to keep it that way. I have a feeling that Toyota will start scanning ECU's when you come in for your scheduled free maintenance to flag any ECU modifications. This is happening on every Audi currently, the proliferation of turbo charged engines and the subsequent ECU tuning for easy HP has put the manufacturers at the disadvantage in terms of warranty repair. This will happen, for me, the car is fast enough for it's intended use.

I will not be modifying mine until at least a couple years out, assuming I even do. I'm in the same boat as Trojan, I'm not willing to pay the price if something goes wrong. If I decide to sell the car after a couple years I want to be able to give the next owner a clean car that they can choose what they do with it.

I'm no racing driver and the car is fine stock for daily driving imo. I would say that it depends on your location as well that will determine availability in general.

we have no plans on selling ours at any point. but this car should be treated no different than any other car like it (sport car, modifiable and etc). but yes, internet inflates the number of how many people are modding them.

we personally have no plans on body work. just power and mods for that. all else will be left stock.

Not modding mine.

Thereā€™s another thing to consider...

My car had been in the shop for 3 weeks and theyā€™re telling me it could be months before they have the computer scantool they need to flash the new body ECU part.

That means theyā€™re getting me a new car and my old one (with only 354 miles) is going to hit the used market once they can finally put it back in working order.

Hopefully there arenā€™t a lot of cars flooding the market soon for similar reasons. It would be a shame if lots of almost new cars being available was misconstrued as a sign of deeper issues with the model in general.

Wait, what are they trying to flash?

Mine will remain stock for many years. I had an 87 4Runner Turbo that was bone stock and gutless, but I still enjoyed the hell out of it. On the other hand I have a 86 4Runner with a 2rz swap running 13lbs and need a new clutch. I enjoy stock and modded, but it will be a long while before I get the itch to modify the Supra. One thing to keep in mind is all the bugs Toyota will need to work out. I don't want to get close to voiding the warranty while they are flushing things out. Just my 2 cents.

As someone that is planning on purchasing the car second hand, I don't foresee the used market for the MKV any different from other sport cars.

As others had stated, not every R35 has a widebody and shooting flames. Not every MKIV is pushed to 1000hp. The Supra has the rep of a mod friendly platform, but not everyone dropping 55k+ on a new car is going to void the warranty and leave themselves dead in the water when something goes wrong. Especially since most of us don't know the long term effects on reliability. Also, got to remember the guys that are leasing the car.

I think like most cars, cleaner examples will go for more second hand. Modded cars won't be valued as high, and that's where I'll be looking. Better deals for me. Makes more sense as I plan on doing my own things, but not to a new car.

I have no plans to modify mine. I got 2/3 of it wrapped in Suntek plastic film. The only mod I would do is the horn. Mine will go into hibernation in my garage soon till April. That is my plan every year for the next ten years.

What are your thoughts on the PPF so far? I've been considering it and will more than likely have to travel to get it done well. How is the clarity on the Suntek material? Also were they able to wrap edges or do you see lines?
