Hi all,

I've just noticed that I have some fogging in my rear lamp units and some water droplets in the front headlamp units.

Does anyone else have these or similar issues?

I've just emailed the dealer and I'm expecting these lamp units to be swapped out. I guess I'm about to find out how good the warranty is.

Laters,

Paul

Not all the lamp units are weathertight, many are setup to vent to atmosphere. On those, itā€™s normal to see moisture under some rare circumstances. If this happened on multiple units front and back then itā€™s a strong suggestion a pressure washer was used on the car at some point. I donā€™t think itā€™s a warranty issue, but if it was and they can attribute it to a pressure washer, that might affect the response.

Thanks for your response Doc.

I've not used a pressure washer but I do live in South Wales, which quite possibly has the heaviest rainfall in the UK. In any case, I've raised it at the dealership and I'm awaiting a response. I've not suffered this issue in my MKIV or my Rav4 so I'm rather hoping that it is a seal issue and not a design issue.

Cheers,

Paul.

Hi DesmoSD,

Thanks for your reply.

That is interesting, and it might well be an issue with some BMWs also. My partner has a Mini Cooper (also made by BMW), her's has no issues but she might have bought one of the few good ones.

The dealership have indicated that this will be a warranty repair so I'm not too worried at this point. I guess I shall keep my fingers crossed and see what happens.

I really think it's normal and won't be surprised if the replacement lamps do the same exact thing if subjected to the same conditions. People were conditioned by earlier lamp units or lamps from other brands that were sealed, but for the last 4-5 years BMW lamps have been vented. Moisture can and will get in, but it shouldn't be permanent or excessive.
