I mean he isnā€™t wrong.
Iā€™ve personally looked for a Focus RS on order and a type R, in addition to the the new Porsche GT4.
The first two, never even landed in my entire local region. All the sold units went directly to previous allocations. The cars were hard to buy, but easy to see on the streets.
As for the GT4 I was sadly declined a sale because I had not previously owned a GT car (previous and current owners get first priority)

Iā€™ve seen more than a few new Z4s, which I must say actually look good in person.
I canā€™t say Iā€™ve seen a Supra here local, outside of my recent trip to Japan.

obviously my own personal experience does not dictate fact or reality, but it does indicate something if others are experiencing the same thing.
ultimately I donā€™t think it matters if you like the car.

I would say hes not wrong about mark ups, but he didn't even bother to look up sales numbers. It only takes a minute to Google Toyota's press release.

It's funny because I've seen a couple of Supra's and Z4's. I call bullshit on Jalopnik. Nothing more than a clickbait article.

I've seen one supra on the road. And a few z4's. I never predicted Toyota to sell a ton of these things.

I also saw them mentioning in that article ā€œbelow MSRP,ā€ when many of those cars are probably base models, which would make those prices actually at / above MSRP. But I doubt they know the difference. A lot of dealerships are using generic pictures (often of the LE) when advertising the car and so it may look like a $55k version based on the random stock photo the use when itā€™s actually the $49k base version.

I stopped reading when he revealed what an idiot he was in listing cars " under MSRP" on Autotrader. The dealers did that on day one and when you inquire to the price it isn't the listed one.

So his entire premise is wiped out because he uses that as his data point to determine his conclusion.

One of my former employees is an editor ( long-time) of the site. I have watched it slip into the abyss of crap for years.

I stopped reading when I saw Jalopnik in the link. That website has some of the worst researched, poorly written automotive content on the internet.

Donā€™t agree with the article but agree with some in the comment section.
Itā€™s a car Iā€™m keen to buy but the attitude of the Toyota dealers here in Australia sour the whole experience.
The car is usually in a roped off section. No test drive is allowed and some dealers wonā€™t let you even sit in the car.
Iā€™ve started looking at a Lexus RCF.
The Lexus dealers throw you the keys and tell you to enjoy the test drive.

The dealers in the UK were totally out of the loop. The only contact the buyers have/had with Toyota wasn't't given any information to pass on. It made the whole buying process a chore and almost cost them my order.

I think the Toyota marketing and sales department have a hell of a lot to answer for! The car itself is very good. I'd like to have seen them come up with a fix for the wind noise right away and roll it out quickly but it seems that's not happening either.

The dealerships really are awful. I went into my local dealer up the road to see one, and nobody came up to me to talk about the car for a good while, just a bunch of sales guys standing around talking amongst themselves. When I asked a salesman if I could look inside and under the bonnet, he told me that he can't do that and only the store manager has access to the car. They didn't even seem interested in trying to sell the thing at all.

I have only seen one other Supra on the road here, and that was back in July. Other than the one I test drove, I have yet to see another, on the road or in person. But that isn't surprising, as the car is produced in low numbers.

I owned my X3 M40i over a year before I saw another on the road. In the many years I owned my Z4, I bet I only saw 3-4 others. I've never seen another M2 Comp anywhere in existence -- at dealer or on the road -- since owning mine. If I was to write an article based on my own experience, it wouldn't mean crap.

S2000 is an aberration -- despite being a low production car, I see them all the time, ever since I got my first one in 2005. Even to this day I see 1-2 a week.
