Service manager called today. Directed me to open a case with Toyota CEC. Once a case agent is assigned they’ll go about finding me a new vehicle. Not sure why he didn’t have me do this last Friday. We’ll see how long it takes. The car will be at the dealer a month on Monday.
I would get all your documents together. I hope your dealer is helping you through this process. To cover all your bases, you should also submit your documents and send it to Toyota in a certified mail. I went through a Lemon with Toyota a little over a year ago.

I have the exact same problem with the passenger side front light. Took it is today and the manager tells me that it is the 1st Supra they are servicing. They told me 3 days to wait on parts but based on this thread it may take way longer. Not sure I can drive a loaner Corolla for too long.

Thanks but I have zero paperwork. The car went in and hasn’t left the service bay. Do you think it’s going to be declared a lemon or that they’ll just get me another car?

I can’t imagine they’d want to burn a perfectly good car that they’ll be able to make “new” once the ECU can be flashed.

In addition the the light problem, I also requested an oil change since the car had over 1K miles. The reply I received is that this car takes a special oil and filter they don't have and need to order. Initial delay is already going to be at least 4 days. This was my concern with a BMW being serviced at a Toyota dealer. They are just not ready to handle these cars. For the light, they have a call into Toyota and they are waiting for technical support. This is going to take a while.

So my case agent contacted me this morning.

Interestingly enough, she says the car may be fixed today if the Toyota Engineering plan is successful. Quite the turn of events but I’ll take a speedy resolution over the previously gloomy prognosis.

As always I’ll keep updating.

That is a lame excuse because people here on the forum have ordered the oil and filter from their dealer or online and done their own oil changes. They are BMW parts in Toyota packaging with Toyota part numbers, and are readily available. Not sure why an actual Toyota dealer would need to wait 4 days. I think they are making up BS.

Well I’m this case, yes, it will be considered a lemon after 30 days. With my past experience, it was numerous times back to the dealership that added to more than 30 days of vehicle at the service department with more than 4 unsuccessful attempts in fixing the issue.

You will have an option to get the vehicle bought back or get a replacement vehicle that is equivalent with your current vehicle. If you have a case manager assigned to your case and they are aware of the issue, you should raise the question of your car being a lemon

Received a voicemail yesterday late afternoon touching base. Dealer is still working with Toyota Engineering and they’re getting closer. My case handler says we should know a lot more on Monday.

Tuesday is the 30 day mark.

If I were you, I would start a formal process of a lemon. You are a very patient person. I deff would have been raising hell to Toyota Corporate. For all those days that car sat, it could have been driven.

I’m not sure what you want the outcome to be. But I would try to either get a replacement vehicle or get a resolution that makes you whole

We’ll get there. It’s premature to start making demands or directing the course of events. Doing so can limit my upside and potentially make things more painful. I’m going to see how (and if) the repair turns out and then assess what needs to happen and what concessions need to be made.

Latest update from my case... I am told there are several similar cases and they are working on a solution that includes and ECU change and some kind of light module change. Not sure what that means. I am told Toyota is holding that hardware until they are certain the problem is resolved. I guess they are going to test with a few customer cars first. For now I am told it will be approximately 2 weeks. They are giving me an upgrade on the corolla which is a good thing.

Interesting. Sounds like I might be one of the guinea pigs.

So I got a call (day 30).

The lights are replaced and they all work, but they can’t clear the error because the body ECU workaround didn’t work. Apparently they were attempting to do something that would allow the old ECU to remain in the car because they still can’t get software onto the replacement ECU. He did confirm that my car was one of the ones they were trying the fix on that dd1eye mentioned.

I declined to take the car in it’s current form since there would be no ETA for a 100% fix.

He’s circling back to Toyota CEC for vehicle replacement.

Here's to hoping you get a new vehicle. Best of luck!
