I'm not sure how accurate these sales figures are but here are both values. If 2019 Supra sales numbers can meet the 2016 Cayman numbers, do you really consider that a win-win? 2016 was a one night stand for the Cayman and the honeymoon staged slowly faded when they realized that there were driving a 4 cyl turbo.

I'm not sure where you found those numbers, but when looking at VW press press they do not differentiate 718 Caymans and Boxsters. Their sales chat has it as "ALL 718". According to A70 Toyota is projecting around 4k-5k Supras for the remainder of the year. And if we lump Z4 sales with Supras sales (since according to SF its just a hardtop Z4) than it would even farther surpass the 718 Cayman and Boxster. What I was trying to point out was Jalopnik bias. It appears that the Supra is selling around the same pace as the 718, but I don't recall Jalopnik writing an article in 2016 titled "Is Anyone Really Buying The New 718".

From the sales link that you posted earlier. It makes sense that they would categorize the Cayman and Boxster as a 718 since; one is a coupe, the other is a spyder. Projecting Q4 sales is nice in all but 4-5K Supras sounds very exaggerated. Unless, Toyota offers very strong rebates, low APR's and invoice pricing to move the remaining inventory, I doubt it.

I do recall a familiar "foe" from the evil Jalopnik land by the name of Tom McParland talking about not buying the 718. Guys on Rennlist barely batted an eye.

They sold 1,477 units in just 70 days. Either way 2019 is a very short calendar year. We sh'all see.

Just one article were the 718 is mush up with a list of other cars vs monthly negative coverage of the Zupra. ;)

Are you sure that data is correct?

Toyota delivered 1,477 Supras, of which 514 were sold in September. Toyota 86/Scion FR-S sales were 2,517, off 21.9 percent. Add in Subaru BRZ and the sports car platform's sales were 4,493.

I saw one on the road earlier this month, and another one at C&C Charlotte. It was owned by a shop though.

I think people that are buying the A90 Supra are buying more than just a car. With the same stacks of cash or a little more, you can buy a Porsche Cayman but why did they buy the Supra? For me, it was an emotion-driven purchase.

One the topic of brand collaborations, I see more merits. If Toyota were to develop their own Supra entirely, I wouldn't be surprised to get a 90-100k price point. If that was true, likely it's gonna get even more backlash of being a RIDICULOUSLY expensive Toyota that cannot outperform a GT-R.

Hence, in my opinion (just an opinion, don't flame me), having a reasonably priced Supra with BMW's well-developed drive train & engine fine-tuned by Toyota is a more palatable business risk that they are taking. Having this 2020 Supra to build the foundation for future Toyota Sports Car is more exciting than anything. We can't be sure of anything now, but I believe Supra A90 will definitely leave a mark in history, good or bad, nobody knows

Have not seen any Supras on the road. A local dealer in the GTA has had one on the floor at MSRP for the past 3 weeks. Yes, it's Fall however people are simply not that interested. Local enthusiasts are looking for C8s. I'll keep my cash in the bank and wait until next year to buy a Supra at below MSRP. I have no interest in GM junk.

I got to mess around with a C8 and was deeply impressed. However, I have major concerns regarding its transmission because of chevys less than stellar reputation for automatics.

I totally agree with this.
In the UK we had to place a deposit a year before cars were delivered and 8 months before we could drive them. So I bought on the Supra name and confidence that it would be good. Had it been a 90-100k car I probably would have gone for something else ( a used cayman for 40k). We had two modern Toyotas at the time. I can only assume anyone who complained the interior was 'too BMW' hadn't been in a modern Toyota...the interiors suck!
Only 300 Supras came to the UK this year so it's a rare sight on the road. I like that.

Suprasaiyansg, How many Supras are there in SG? I have a business partner out there, we ship cars back and forth sometimes.

I had to take my 2017 Tacoma to the dealership for a blower motor safety recall. I didn’t feel comfortable with keeping the truck after that, so I left with a new Supra that day
