That's exactly my point. It happened at a lower speed. Imagine that turn is 50 mph, you mess up, you have a few seconds to react and maybe save it, scrub some speed, impact is 30-35 mph.
Now the car has aero, upgraded suspension, and so on, and the car now takes the same turn at 80 mph. Now if you mess up, you have less time to react, you scrub less speed, and the impact is a lot harder. And maybe you end up taking someone else with you, and ruin their car too.
Go Google Ayrton Senna driving the Honda NSX around Suzuka. He's driving the crap out of that car, and it's effortless. Why? Because he's better than the car. His limits are higher than the car. If the car has higher limits than the driver, that's when crashes like these happen. Over driving, over confidence, etc. So in my opinion, the worst thing a driver in that position should do, is make the car even faster. The driver should bring himself to the level of the car first, preferably past it, and then bring the car up to match.

But that's just me.
I meant to convey that I don't think he was even racing yet, or trying to go fast, it was just a fluke that can happen at any speed. But I wasn't there and Jackie is here, so he can respond. He has demonstrated plenty of good driving, so I have no reason to doubt his skills.

You're 100% correct. The incident happened on a warm up lap, when I wasn't pushing at all. It is my mistake and error in judgement, but like you said, I look at it as a fluke.

Would love for us to get back on topic! Sorry for the lack of updates on the TA90 V2 thus far, we have a lot of molds in the work and don't have anything interesting to showcase just yet! But I do have an ETA now: the carbon front lip, splitter, rear wing, and clamshell hood should all be done by "early next week". Stay tuned!

Soooo you crash a car and your solution is to make a faster car by adding aero and so on so you can crash at higher speeds?
That makes total sense.
If you can't handle the car as is, aero, or any upgrades that push the car to a higher level, is the last option you should take. You need to work on your skill by taking advanced driving courses.
The car is already more capable than you are, so why would you widen that gap even more?
When you start questioning a guys ability without knowing the guy yourself and your only defense is the videos you've seen online does not give you the right to put out such opinions. Walks like a troll, talks like a troll, it must be a troll.

Mid-week update: I've been busy in school, but our aero master has been even busier. He hasn't even shown me how anything looks but did give me this teaser shot of the hood in progress... I MIGHT be a bit biased but sorry, TRD Who?

Hope to have the car's aero ready this weekend, then it's livery and power mods next week and suspensions the following week. Then it's time to load the car up for California... Keep you all posted.

The build has been delayed over the past few weeks, which was mainly due to our error in time management, but weā€™ve finally got back on track and thereā€™s been a lot of progress recently!

First off, hereā€™s how our PhD Racing x Spage Sport hood will look! This is a work-in-progress, so the actual vents on the hood will be opened in the completed version. We will be able to offer this hood in fiberglass or dry carbon, with or without the main vents, and with or without the side fender vents (not finished yet). The unsightly OE fake vent is also deleted, but it can be retained if requested. The front lip, front splitter, and rear wing and more are all still in the works.

As for the TA90 V2, the new livery was done by the guys at C17 Media, and is a nod to the white and red livery that I had on the S2K. We will be doing a more custom livery over the winter, just didnā€™t have time to go super fancy on this one.
The car was then taken to AMS Performance, our powertrain partner, for their own AMS downpipe and tune. Unfortunately my Base was one of the many affected by the new Rom files and couldnā€™t be flashed through the OBD port, but the guys managed to bench flash it and we gained a solid 100 whp from 5k to 7500 rpm. This is actually a safe detune as we wanted to be safe for our first real event with the V2 car, and that weā€™re worried about the fuel quality in California where weā€™d be competing. According to the tuner, there is room for at least another 25 whp.

With the tune complete, we focused on the next step, weight reduction. We installed an Antigravity Group 47 30 Ah Lithium Ion battery, but it was a little too short to reach the side bracket, so weā€™ll have to custom fab something up. The rear trunk panels are once again removed, and we also received a shipment from our sponsor Sparco and installed a pair of their Evo QRT seats and 6 point harnesses. The seat is perfect for a slim-build driver and offers a lot of shoulder support but is very comfortable (at least for my 21 years old back). We didnā€™t have a scale, but we estimate that between the two seats, we saved about 60-65 lbs from the heavy OEM seats. A further 50 lbs from the battery and 50 lbs from the interior brings our weight reduction total to about 150-160 lbs, but weā€™ll put the car on the scales soon.

We have a lot more upgrades coming shortly, so stay tuned over the next few days!

JackieD86,

Great power from 2 simple mods. Love the look of the Sparco EVO seats that you installed.

Curiously waiting on the finished Aero parts. Best of luck with the modding.

Not to bring up the accident again, but one of the current issues of the big 3 car mags (can't remember if its C&D, Motortrend or Road & Track) has a comparo of all the current sports cars vs the McLaren Senna. For the first 2 tests, done on rough backroads, the Supra finished bottom of the barrel and the journalists thought they had a car with a problem as it was darty and unstable. They took it back to the dealer after day 2 but they said they didn't find anything. They still got a different car for the final track test, and it drove predictable and smooth as they recalled the last time they tested one. They weren't sure if the first car had a problem or if the Supras suspension doesn't respond well to track surfaces that aren't super even.

I did a bit of research and sort of figured it out. Apparently for many people, the Supra came from factory with 0 rear toe, which is a pretty bad idea on a relatively powerful and short wheelbase RWD car. This happened to Misha of Apex Nurburgring and likely is the case for the magazine-rested car. That said, I didnā€™t really feel much instability over the rear axle at Road Atlanta with the V1 on stock alignment (I donā€™t believe my car had this rear toe problem). The crash took place after we did an alignment and changed the rear toe to 0.4 degree toe in total. From my experience with the S2000, rear toe makes a huge difference in the carā€™s behavior and can really calm the rear end down, but currently weā€™re still searching for that sweet spot on the A90.

Jackie! Whats your new wheel and tire setup? Please share :)
Our current wheel and tire set up is 18x10.5 Titan 7 TS-5 with 275/40/18 Yokohama A052, on both front and rear. The 18-inch T7 wheels were a limited production to test interests but let's see if they'll make more in the future!

Plenty! We did a full coilover conversion with Reinharte/TF Works, and also did a full SPL Parts suspension arm kit. I'll detail it in my next post.

Man I just watch your latest video and I love the carbon hood. You mind sharing the information where I can get a hold of one? I'm in Toronto Canada and I think they are in my area right?
