I actually did think that I'd accidentally pressed my horn the first time that I heard the noise. Glad that I'm not the only one who thought it sounds like a horn.
After spending a lot more time with the car, my experience has been that it makes the sound at low speed and generally only when the brakes are cold / wet. For example, when I'm pulling out of my garage in the morning it will make the noise, but by the time I get to work and am slowing making my way to my parking spot there, it doesn't make the noise even if I apply the brakes at the same speed as ~20 minutes before.
