I'll list the state of the car at the time this was noticed:

Owned for 3 weeks. I drove it a lot for the break-in miles. Hadn't used launch control up to that point.

~1600 miles (memory)

100% Stock (at the time)

Description:

On the day of install for my first two mods (catless downpipe/tune), the shop I had my car at and I inspected the car before the installation of the downpipe, this is how we found the leak. Fortunately the leak is small, but unfortunately it doesnt occur when the car is motionless (in my experience) otherwise I would've seen it on my garage floor. It looks like it sprays a thin film of fluid at whatever is behind the drain plug. We dont yet know how much fluid was lost. My car (as of today) went into the dealership to examine the issue.

So far I've heard from 3 other MKV owners that have the same leaking problem and location. I'm waiting to hear what the dealership says about it. I'm looking for anyone else who has identified this issue with their car to post about it below, and if they've had resolution with the dealership for it.

Thanks!

*update - 11/16/19 - I spoke with the dealership yesterday, so far their only solution is to replace the drain plug (which they have to source because apparently there wasn't a Toyota part number for it yet). I'll report back the day after it's plugged (Wednesday), and a week after to share if it worked or not.

Do you happen to know your build date? With all the manual revisions I have seen, I would expect there were internal changes as well. Given the early mileage of the leak, I would hope something like this would have been caught and revised during production already.

I hope this is a quick fix for you.

I wont know the manufacture date until i get the car back from the dealership unfortunately. I'd like to have a better understanding of this also.

Mine is my daily driver and I am often far from home for work, so this definitely has my attention. I have 1600 miles in mine, but it is being wrapped in ppf and vinyl so I am unable to inspect for a bit.

Let us know what Toyota has to say.

If you know the VIN you can look it up on one of the BMW VIN decoders and it will tell you the build date.

Are you implying it is leaking out of the drain plug? Wonder if it wasn't torqued down properly. They normally get torqued to 45 N-M. There is an o-ring under the head of the plug.

Off the top of my head, the diff probably holds 1L of oil (about a quart). Hopefully the dealer will measure how much drains out and see if it was down by a critical amount. If it was a slow drip you may be OK.

Iā€™ll definitely keep this thread updated with the findings

I tried this, but it didnā€™t indicate the month/day. If youā€™re able to decode it and see that date then here is my vin WZ1DB4C04LW025453

I can see Toyota will deny the warranty, you have a downpipe and tune

Thanks for the good luck. The service writer and tech are friends of mine, but thank you.

There is a sticker by driver's door that you can see it once you have it back. Yours is 1 month younger than mine.
