Man this dim screen is really pissing me off. All the way home today on a 30 min drive I couldn't see anything, not even what song I am listening to on Sirius/XM. They need to come out with a fix for this in short order. /Rant over

I have had a request in now for a couple weeks. I donā€™t think Toyota is ready to service this car.

Bimmercode can fix this issue if you want to spend a few dollars.

Its a problem with the light sensor. If the sun is shining into the interior of your car, the display will get brighter. If the interior becomes darker the display gets too dim. I had I happen will driving, I started out with the sun behind me and the display was bright, when I turned to go a different direction, the sun wasn't shinning in the car and the center display became very dim. Luckily it does affect the speedometer / tachometer. There used to be a setting for display brightness that would work during the day time. It been changed to night time only. the setting can be fixed by recoding with Bimmercode. I would think BMW / Toyota should be changing this back to the old brightness control. I think the light sensor was probably meant for the convertible z4, and they should have disabled or removed it from the Supra, or at least changed the minimum brightness level. If they put the brightness control back, it should be ok.

Do you know where the sensor is?

Have toyota dealerships started to fix this or are they awaiting fix from bmw?

What is everyone experiencing?
I have a dealer with an inquiry into Toyota (FSB or something) and it has been at least a couple weeks without nary a word.

Toyoda may have said this is a car he wanted to build, but it sure isnā€™t a car his company is ready to support.

I wouldnā€™t trust dealerships to fix this issue. BimmerCode fix applied in less than a minute and being able to change brightness as needed along with some other small things.

It's at the corner of the gauge cluster
There is a sensor on each side of the gauge cluster.
If you shine a light aimed at the fuel gauge on the left side, the display will brighten.
Same result if you shine a light aimed at the temperature gauge on the right side.

I got a recall letter a few days ago for this. Dealer is 2 hours away so I will likely just bimmercode it.

Interesting, I havenā€™t heard of any recall over it but I ordered the obd link to do the BimmerCode fix too. Figured Iā€™d might as well since it can do other stuff too like memorize the last setting for the auto stop.

I thought someone else on here got that and they took it in but it didnā€™t fix anything? I think I remember reading it on another screen thread.

Recall doesn't fix the lack of brightness. It only fixes the dimmest brightness setting to not completely black out the screen.
I believe Carguy11 used BimmerCode to, if I understand correctly, to disable the auto adjusting brightness setting so that it won't dim based on sensor input. So, I don't think that is to increase brightness beyond the existing max settings.. I haven't tried it so can't report.
