The C8 is very hard to beat...no matter what negative angle you come at it with.

Chevy did what a lot of manufacturers are not willing to take the risk to do nowadays. That should be enough to show everyone the power of the Vette’s brand in this country.

I think the pricing to get that advertised 0-60 you'll need the $5k performance package upgrade. Honestly once you're done specing, it'll likely be closer to $70k+

Also there are some really concerning issues in the reviews here, common issue is understeer. https://jalopnik.com/2020-chevrolet-c8-corvette-heres-what-everyone-says-ab-1839065259
(while im aware there was a lot of hate of the MKV, the reviews from people who actually drove it were usually almost always good)

Lol well.. shit. These companies are out here lying about their horsepower/torque numbers like it's still 1990.

https://www.motortrend.com/news/2020-chevrolet-corvette-c8-power-dyno/

They claim it dynos at 558hp & 515 ln-ft tq at the wheels. Well that explains a lot.

That is quite an improvement over the 402 and 400 from the C7. A ~40% gain in power while also improving emissions is remarkable. Almost too remarkable perhaps?

C7 dyno for reference https://www.motortrend.com/news/2014-chevrolet-corvette-stingray-z51-dyno-test/

it's not about "lying" or anything of such. Manufacturers advertise the SAE numbers, and SAE basically heats soaks the car, dyno'ing it multiple times, gradually, then converges onto an HP/TQ figure. In other words, the C8 puts out 495HP at the worst-case scenario

I imply this is the case with many of the modern "underrated" cars including the A90 or the FK8 Type-R

They explained it in the article.

I have been following this C8 hype for a bit and I'm not convinced it will be good. The E99 ECU in the C8 is not able to be tuned thanks to the OTA (Over The Air) platform fluid encryption. How will the tuning community get more power out of those LT V8's if they can't tune them? GM through OnStar has a VIN-specific rolling codes and constant evolving digital signatures that can be changed or restored via OnStar when alterations are detected in the ECU. Bummer! Stuck at a measly 495hp and even if a tuner figures out how to hack your ECU for a few extra ponies OnStar will wipe the maps and lock you out. Even still you'll be a target for cyber attacks through your OTA ECU. A hacker could easily wipe your maps and even lock you out of your own car from some distant remote location.

i just don't see anyone getting a C8 at $60K. Dealers ultimately decide what YOU will pay not the manufacture. That's why MSRP mean Manufacture's "SUGGESTED" Retail Price. You can bet your bottom dollar there will be a mark-up on these C8's from dealers and I'm already hearing upwards of an anticipated $10-25K even on base Z51 packages. You think any Chevy dealer is going to watch how Toyota dealers cleaned house with the MKV and not want a piece of that pie when their prized horse is available on the showroom floor? Think again! $75K out the door if you're lucky for a bare bones stripped down C8 with no options. $100K plus for an optioned one all day every day.

So now you got a C8 it's March 2020 and you're lapping up the social media paparazzi at every cars and coffee but wait! What's that parked next to you? Oh it's a 1,000hp MKV Supra that runs 8 second 1/4 miles and is anxiously awaiting you to leave the parking lot so that he can embarrass you in front of those pimply faced kids telling you to rev it as you exit Saturday's little car meet. Priceless!

Oh my pessimism kicked in LOL

Let's not get carried away. I have a buddy with an order for c8 z51 at MSRP. Stock for stock, the supra will not be the better drivers car. Of course the MKV will get far greater mod potential.

Yes let's not get carried away indeed. I keep reading all this nonsense about people claiming they have bought a C8 at MSRP which is a load. Not one single car in the U.S. has been allocated to a dealer yet. People have placed $1,000 deposits in order to be on a list for allocation nothing more. I can tell people I ordered the new Lamborghini Sian Hybrid that will be out on the 12th of Never LMAO.

I spoke directly to several Chevy dealers about this out the door MSRP price on the C8 and they have confirmed that this is not the case. Wishful thinking and media frenzy hype. You know why the C8 hasn't been allocated to dealers yet and why it's late for release? Nemak plant in Windsor Ontario went on strike few months back causing GM to shift it's manufacturing and assembly of the LT1, LT2, and LT3 motors and other various parts of the C8 down to good ol' Mexico. In fact, Nemak in Monterrey, Mexico to be exact.

The MKV Supra is out already and as we all know is putting down serious numbers with minimal mods for reasonable pricing. Can't really compare or bench race a car that's not out right? Who knows exactly when GM will allocate these C8's, I have heard late January to March 2020 from various sources who are in the echelons of the GM ladder. People shouldn't be so gullible to believe they're going to get a mid-engine DCT car with an alleged 0-60 time in less than 3 seconds for $59,000. Then again, Mexico has been able to deliver some pretty cheap parts on other GM vehicles in the past so who really knows what kind of stunt GM is pulling here. Let's hope they don't come to us asking for another bail out again from poor business decisions.

The c8 z51 looks awful in person in stock form. I thought I loved the car from the photos and information. In person it was just another corvette, except it looks way longer. With both doors open the car looks 15+ foot wide, its huge all around.

What was funny is that I drove the supra to the corvette event a good portion of the event migrated to my car and a more than a few said they preferred the supra. I was honestly suprised.

I’m sure the c8 will be an awesome car, but I wouldn’t compare it to the supra, even if it is a bmw supra. Corvettes are a dime a dozen and every mid 40s man with a pair of jean shorts and white tube socks will own one within the first 6 months of release. I prefer something you don’t see very often. Everyone thought the c5 was awesome too when it launched and we see where those resale prices are vs mk4.

This thread was funny bc my neighbor who put money down on a c8 says to get a c8 instead bc the supra is slow and c8 is just alittle bit more. I am not a Chevy/American guy. lol
