Hello fellow Supra Members.

I have a Nocturnal Black Supra where I noticed a paint defect. I had a painter take a look at the issue, and they told me that it looks like there wasn’t enough base coat put down. This is on the door garnish piece on both sides. I will attach a picture.

I took it to the dealership and they had to get a Toyota rep to come out to take a look at it. Weeks later, they concluded that it’s normal and that no warranty work will be done at this time.

I noticed it when I dropped off the car to get it detailed. They brought out the light to assess the paint. If the owners with the Nocturnal Black paint could take a look at their door garnish pieces would be much appreciated. I find it hard to believe that this issue is considered NORMAL...

Fellow Nocturnal Black owner here. I am seeing the same faded look on those panels when I shine an LED flashlight at it. Never noticed it under any other lighting.

Well I think I posted this on the right thread of issues and warranty. It took Toyota this long to get back to me. I did a warranty claim saying that this is not normal. And they concluded that this is normal.

I have not gotten my car detailed since i got the car because I didn’t want them saying the detail caused it. Their explanation was that this is a unique paint with metallics. There’s nothing unique about this paint. This is just a generic BMW’s sapphire black...

I guess I am stuck w it now since Toyota won’t do anything about it

Did you reach out to Toyota, not just the dealer? Take few more pictures and email Toyota support. Call customer center etc.

Did you have the chance to look at it?

I would escalate it. If that fails, start a social media campaign shaming the dealer / Toyota on Facebook and Twitter. It may not work, but at this point if they told you to deal with it, then I would let the world know that you are dealing with it. Make your problem become theirs.

On a side note, anyone find this paint color chips easy? My front bumper is terrible with only 1500 miles on it.

The LED light has a bluish hue, so it does manipulate the color a bit

Yeah... this doesn’t look “normal” at all. I’d call corporate

Finally got around doing a single step polish in the car months after. Since Toyota said my paint defect is “Normal”

Now it sticks out like a sore thumb. This is definitely not normal at all
