"We do know that both companies announced they would be splitting development duties into four sections: joint sports car development, fuel-cell technology, electrification technology and weight-saving technology."

I must have missed this announcement before. Did they mention which company is responsible for which?

Yeah... so I don't know what to make of this, but at least it's a decent rumor.

Saw it on thedrive tonight, which is calling some guy posting on a forum "reports." http://www.thedrive.com/news/13857/...-toyota-supra-will-have-a-manual-transmission Good enuff for me.

Here's the forum:
https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/dave-from-toyota-what-we-learned-in-breck-about-the-200.1003052/

Here's the actual quote:

- Any info on the upcoming Toyota Supra?
-- Release date early 2019; should have north of 400hp, expect a manual option. Dave would not comment on powertrain other than to indicate it was a joint build with BMW and it will NOT be using BMW's ubiquitous 3.0 twin turbo inline 6. He said it may have a 3.5 v6 turbo and there may be a hybrid variant.

Language of the quote is pretty vague. Only real somewhat hard facts are "more than 400 horsepower" "expect a manual" and "will not be BMW 3.0." But honestly it sounds to me more like just someone commenting what he thinks, not based on any known fact. But hey, it's something.

Yeah, im still up in the air on how I feel about this too.
Its always hard with this sort of stuff to judge how much truth to take from it all. But it certainly does sound about right, I think.

At the end of the day, in my opinion, with the success of the 86. I'm pretty confident Toyota will certainly have a manual option. Would be absolutely silly NOT too.
Particularly with Toyota's new slogan ''Fun to drive again''.
They still make manuals for just about every car they offer (except Camry/Aurion). Even the new Turbo CH-R has a manual option.

Sometimes I think people are thinking into this whole thing a little too much.

As for the power figure...
400HP would also sound about right, particularly for the size of the car and the market they appear to be aiming to compete with.
In no way do I expect this car to compete with the NSX or GTR. I don't believe that's their aim.

Not sure why, but we don't get a turbo or a manual in the CH-R here in the US.

I lived in Nigeria for 19 years. 4 of which I was driving and I never drove an automatic for once. Then I got to the state and that changed. the US might be the only country that have more automatics running around than manual. It surprises me that most of the guys have met have never driven a stick before. I even knew a guy that has Camaro and don't even know what the shift mode on his auto trans does. So you can imagine why auto makers don't offer manual in the US.

I might be of few but I am interested in the Hybrid, the LC500H was fantastic for a Hybrid, I could use the extra Tech and MPG for my long work commute. I hope that the Hybrid doesn't detract from the purity of the gas based one though, just like how they executed the LC500 the V8 and the Hybrid are two different beast each with it's own good dynamics I hope this is the case for the MKV.

Just saw an LC500 in the flesh yesterday. OMG. It is beautiful. Looks very sharp. I can only hope that the Supra will get some of the LC500 genes.
I saw one on the road a few weeks ago. An old lady was driving it. But it is a beauty, and that stance .

Yeah .... an old couple was driving the one I saw, but the car looked good. Very futuristic. Those tail lenses looked different, but cool. And yes .... the stance was perfect. Wheels fit the arches perfectly.

A Supra with that shape wouldn't be a bad thing. Just needs to have some raw, sport car features.

I'm really getting excited.

alfa offers a manual on the giulia nearly everywhere except here. should tell ya everything
Yeah, i was surprised myself, seeing that they offered Manual. Bare in mind, there's literally only a handful in manual for sale. but none the less, we can get them. Either way, pretty cool
Check it out, here's an e.g.
This is one of the biggest car sites used here in Australia.

Yeah I got to sit in one at the dealership trying to car shop. Wasn't allowed to drive it, But it felt way more premium for a more expensive 911 s I test drove.

Apparently the 10 speed is not very good in it and feels slow.

Actually I've driven both 500 and 500H, it's a great car, the 10 speed on the v8 can be alittle slow depending which mode you put it in, but as a GT cruiser with the DB 11 as it's target I can see why it's a bargain of performance when pinned up against the 200k Car. This car is very deserving to be the Lexus Halo, also imho I enjoyed the Hybrid just as much as the v8, it's transmission is alittle gimmicky but it works to really save gas and still allow you to have fun when you want. It's weird where the first 4 gears are automatic torque converting normal stuff, and the rest of it is a CVT, so as you speed you can just feel the spinning and the MPH going up quickly it took me a while to get used to it, when I had it for a time. In anycase I really like how they handled the LC and hope that some of the logistics and the good items trickle down into the MKV or if the MKV just become a great Toyota Halo car like the LC.

To me, the MKV feels like the road version of the TS050
