Well I agree. If there is the option on any car currently on the market, I’m taking a manual no matter how good it is with an auto. 100% will choose manual.
There are certainly trade offs - aside from weighing the benefits of faster shifting and launches vs absolute control. I’ve heard/read stories of dealers blaming owner behavior for engine problems that turned out to be manufacturing defects. Specifically, behavior that you can’t do if the car is a dual clutch or auto.

too often? maybe a couple decades ago but show me where that happens now when only a handful of new cars out there have a stick? still, I would much rather control a car with shitty dynamics using a manual than having a computer dictate things for me.. Soon y'all are gonna be ok with completely automated gas & brake pedals!
it's crazy how manuals are getting down to a handful

There are certainly trade offs - aside from weighing the benefits of faster shifting and launches vs absolute control. My friend had one of the first S55 M car manuals. Engine developed problems. Dealer claimed he over revved it (he didn’t) and presented him with a $26,000 repair bill. He got a lawyer. Ended up getting the entire total he had paid on his lease back after they tore down the engine and saw the manufacturing defect. It was a highly contentious situation that wouldn’t have been an issue if it was a dual clutch. Can’t over rev with a dual clutch/auto.

I personally wouldn’t own a modern BMW product with a manual for this exact reason.
That's an absurd reason to not want a manual, but to each their own.

Has anyone that's bought an A90 felt they still NEED a manual
I doubt that kind of person would buy the car. I passed on the Supra because of the transmission issue, and driving one a couple weeks later confirmed my decision. Same powertrain in my M40i and not engaging enough for a proper sports car in my opinion.

@ichitaka05 I wanted to follow up. Have you spoken to Tada-san ever since? Any progress on the manual?
Gave feedback to him. I think, he's still looking into other options.

Edit. Gonna say stuff, but don't want to hype ppl w fault info nor ppl overestimate. Let's just say MT isn't out of question.

More than likely going in the 4 cylinder Supra for Aussie, U.K and Japan from what a little birdie told me ;)

How about whole Europe? :/ We are supposed to get 2.0 here too in Poland so... why narrow it only to UK?

I have also heard from the manager at a dealer when I bought my 4runner. They were told at a meeting that 2021 there is a manual 4 cylinder

It's quite possible, even the information that was divulged to me holds no confirmed answers.

It's even crazier how fast autos have become.
That's technology for ya. It's a blessing and a curse. Next thing you'll be saying is, "it's even crazier how fast auto-nomous have become"
