My local dealership (Wilsonville, OR) is set up really nicely. I text my dedicated service advisor in advance instead of setting appointments up in the "traditional" way (website or phone) and they take great care of me. Unfortunately, I know this too well because we've been chasing down the rattle behind the seats. I think we have it narrowed down to the box itself. (Putting pressure on the surface facing the back of the passenger seat seems to completely eliminate the irritating bass rattle I've had since I bought the car, but that's a different story altogether.)
I brought my car in to address this exact problem, they reported tested my car with 3 other new ones on the lot and confirmed the rattle is by design and there's nothing wrong with it.

Great eh?

that is common practice for service techs. Why should we use our time on something thatā€™s a ā€œcommon characteristicā€œ of that vehicle. We didnā€™t make the car
The problem is the insulation seems to be inadequate, just because it came out of the factory that way, doesn't mean it can't be addressed to get fixed right?

This is different as some techs will try and solve the problem and then there are techs that do the comparison with new vehicles. Luckily there is a 3 year warranty on this car and there are plenty of Toyota dealerships around SoCal where I can get this addressed. I agree with you, not all techs will address and try to fix this problem.

I think someone else on here had techs that were happy to try to resolve and issue with the subs rattling.

Probably depends on how receptive the dealer is to allow techs (that actually give a fuck & want to solve a (customers) problem) to work on the issue.

It would help to not go to a busy dealership where this type of work will decrease the earning potential of the techs doing the work

it boils down to this. Whether you think this is a bad excuse or not. This is reality.
Yeah move you away from doing a complete brake job for $500, to address this warranty issue that pays $20

On mine, they've gone way out of their way to help track the issue down. Supposedly some regional ppl at Toyota are watching this case to see what the issue is. They've looked for it on the other 3 cars that came through Wilsonville and have since been sold and mine is the only one with the issue. They've removed and felt lined everything they could find, replaced clips, adjusted panels. Replacing the box is the step we're on now, but my advisor seems determined to get to the root of it. They've pretty much made me a customer of the dealership for life. Combined with how they handled my FR-S deciding to blow itself apart after the recall service, I can't ask for better treatment than this. They've been great.

I certainly hope they will use your car as an example to fixing the problem. There are many cars with this problem and I don't believe they can issue a TSB on fixing this issue yet. They still don't know what's causing it.

I think that's the overall idea. Fingers crossed for the rest of you with this issue

This from another member that had their problem fixed, this was his problem

I had TERRIBLE speaker rattle. My dealer addressed two issues:

  1. Removed carpeting around speaker and found loose piece of plastic that had nothing to do with the car. This part was removed.
  2. Added more insulation around the rear sub/speakers between the carpeting/chassis/speakers. This COMPLETELY fixed the rattle issue. Blast the bass and sound and not a single issue with the speakers anymore. Dropped it off and left overnight 1-2 day turn around when I first brought it up. My dealer has been very careful and sensitive when inspecting and working on my car so far.

Not fixed. Brought it in to Toyota and they said it was designed that way. Tested new vehicles and all were the same. Iā€™ll address this later with them when the 2021 models come out

My dealership replaced the box in which the speakers are mounted. The problem is completely resolved.

Incidentally, I rented a z4 on a business trip and that one had a horrendous rattle too.

Would we be lucky enough to get a replacement 2021 due to speaker lemon? 3 repair chances is all they get
