Heres mine installed from zl1addon splash guard..

As mentioned previously, the front splash guard hardware is not strong enough to bite on the rivet house.

Its recommnded to buy new rivets with longer tail so it will reach down to the fender.

Installed ZL1 Splash Guards today...I actually purchased new bmw plastic push rivets for front guards and they worked very well and are extremely secure ...I would recommend using new push rivets than using the provided screws that reuse old OE rivet bases...

The problem with those rivets is that they can crack the paint around the fender holes when you add another layer of thickness (splash guards) to be clamped down, since they flare out aggressively. These are meant for a very specific thickness range (stock setup) and for the normal range, the pins are easy to push in. Once the materials are too thick they take a lot more effort and that is what can enlarge the holes and crack the paint.

I posted some Toyota rivets above that have the same diameter, but flare out over a wider range of thicknesses, and the pins push in with low effort (you can do it with your thumb). These would be a lot safer to use.

I disagree....The flaps are quite thin and personally I don't see an issue...they weren't that difficult to push in and they worked quite well.. but thanks for all your input!

I have seen it happen on BMWs when people reuse the stock rivets for flaps and body kits. These flaps may be thin enough but beware if using flaps thicker than ~ 2mm. You'll know it's a problem if you can't easily push the pins in.

Flaps are ~1.5mm thick...

I was more concerned with ZL1's instructions that called for re-using the old push rivet bases and then securing them with screws they provided...

I think perhaps the best option would be to use the 5mm plastic pop rivets that tedan628 used...that said, I'm comfortable with using new OE push rivets...

so i messed up on the weekend installing the front splash guard on the right side. i accidentally took steel rivets and was unable to cut the pins with regular rivet gun. i had to run quickly to Home depot to buy a steel cutter :(

anyways...

i was trying to help my friend this weekend installing the splash guard for his car and the new provided screws on the rear messed up the thread and we were unable to completely secure the screws on the rear fender. this is really frustrating that we have issues with the new screws still

Sorry to hear about those steel rivets...I thought you had got the plastic ones??

What problem did you guys have with rear screws??...were they the new black ones??? I installed my rear guards with the new screws and didn't have any issues with them at all...

Can anyone explain to me why I have 12 screws. 6 silver and 6 black for the ZL1 guards. They also supplied plastic rivots. And which guard is the front set and which is the back? Bigger pair back?

Rears: Wider splash guards / 6 black screws (3 per side) / 6 spacers (3 per side)

Fronts: Narrower splash guards / 8 plastic push rivets (4 per side)

I installed the fronts. Rears I installed and removed. All supplied screws are incorrect for the rear. They aren't close to matching the factory screw profile, so they don't bite. You could walk up and pull the rear flap off. I threw them away.

I mentioned it earlier, but no one seemed interested. We could probably get acs to make splash guards. The ones they made for the ZL1 were awesome.

That sucks...

I know in the beginning they were sending out the wrong hardware....

I used the new black screws they sent for the rears (they originally were sending out silver with different threads) and mine are really secure...
