I think this issue is from the 3rd party supplier. I'm sure that this plastic door garnish pieces are supplied by a 3rd party and painted by them. I went to go look at another Nocturnal Black that was on the showroom floor at a local dealership and it had the same issue. But not as bad as mine.could be the garnish was damaged at the port and they resprayed it at the port. It happens a lot and that looks like respray to me.
And the worst thing is they dont report the damage to you when you get the car or even reported on car fax.
Didn’t have a chance to take it in, but sent photos to the sales guy. No response yet.Did you take it in? If so, any update?
I definitely noticed on the other black supra that was sitting on dealer's showroom. I did not notice anything on the mirror cap, but i will make sure to check. I almost want to check every panel with the paint meter to see if any of it was repainted. I still need to take it back to a different dealer to see what they can do about it.In the pic I posted it looks like there are a few spots in the lower quarter, but let me get it to my shop and check it under some good lights before I say that for sure. It’s probably just the picture.
I just noticed the door garnish yesterday, and it’s the same on both sides. My guess is that all colors have the same issue and it’s just most apparent on the black. I’ll be on the look out when I come across other supras! I may even drive to a couple dealers and look.
I noticed the mirror cap about 2 weeks ago in direct sunlight. There are areas you can see through to black. The outer area with the 3 lines is where it is most apparent. Toyota should have done a better job on the finish all around, but the plastic parts are the worst. Nonetheless I still love the car.
This thread is actually a relief for me, because after reading it last night I went back out to check the other side and saw that it was see through as well. I was thinking my car had been scratched and repaired/repainted on the panel! Hopefully Toyota steps up and has all of these pieces refinished!

I’ve find that, in my case its only visible in direct sunlight at specific times of day. Any other time or lighting and I’d never notice. I’m afraid this will make it difficult to address.
I’m trying to attach a photo here. Notice on the rear fender there is a similar looking (brownish) splotch. This might just be how the paint color behaves in certain lighting, and is accentuated by the body lines.
*edit: adding another photo in contrast, where the paint looks fine.
The mirror caps are definitely see through, I checked again. Around the 3 little “stripes” or whatever they are, it is the worst. The photo posted above confirms my speculation about the side skirt having the same issue. Mine is the same way on the Nocturnal Black. The door panel is definitely noticeable. Have you had any success with getting this remedied? The mirror caps are definitely see through, I checked again. I’ve circled the spot on the skirt; very similar location to what I saw on my car.
At this point I’m willing to bet areas of the bumpers and other plastic pieces show the same under good lighting.
Hey Toyota, need someone with eyeballs to refinish the numerous recalls you’re about to have to put out? I’m your guy. Wink wink
Not with my local dealers. I am in contact with the dealer where I purchased the vehicle from. Hopefully mine gets resolved.Mine is the same way on the Nocturnal Black. The door panel is definitely noticeable. Have you had any success with getting this remedied?
Well keep us posted because I will probably follow the same process to get mine corrected as well. Thanks for the info! Not with my local dealers. I am in contact with the dealer where I purchased the vehicle from. Hopefully mine gets resolved.
Unfortunately not, and with Toyota being so invested in the 2021 changes I don’t see them fixing any of of this any time soon. I’m just ignoring it for the time being.Anyone have any updates on this??
