My first car was a 1970 Toyota Corona, I enjoy it for a while, I also had many other cars from different manufacturers and enjoy them. ..... but for everybody that hates or dislike the A90..MKV Toyota I will let you know that I owned an MKII, MKIII and MKIV, the MKIV I owned for 14 years, it was a great car. Now I own the Toyota MKV and yes is different, but I enjoy driving it more the any of my previous cars and I think is an excellent vehicle regardless what many may think..... So ā€¦. I don't give a..... of what others think about the car, I got it for me to enjoy not to listen to what others think!!!!!!!!!!!!

MKIV owners are a tough crowd. If it isn't 100% Toyota they aren't having it. It amazes me how hard headed some of them are.
Not all of us are, I don't hate the MKV like other MKIV owners do. Even got accused of not being a "real" Supra owner because I didn't jump on the bashing bandwagon. To me it is what it is Toyota made their decision life goes on. Even if Toyota made it all in house many would find something to complain about.

Fixed that for you. Lexus has 2 performance coupes to choose from right now and I donā€™t see them buying either for X and Y reasons. Yeah those 2 cars arenā€™t perfect, but letā€™s not pretend a Toyota in house MKV would have been perfect either. It seems the only thing they would be happy with is another MKIV.

I don't even understad the logic of SF/MK4 owners anymore.

Nissan releases the R35 GT-R.
SF: That shit is fugly (I agree lol), no MT or I6. That's not a real GTR.

Toyota releases the Lexus RC-F.
SF: It's a pig that loses to the M3/M4. Chassis sucks and AT only. Who would buy this over the Germans?

Toyota releases the Lexus LC500.
SF: Overpriced, using an old ass engine, AT only, and still loses to the BMW 8er. LOL a $100k TOYota.

Toyota releases MK5 Supra.
SF. WTF, why didn't they use the RC or LC chassis for a new Supra!!! (Two cars you guys spent years bashing on, but ok...) New Supra needs to be in the six figures range (but you guys are already whining about a $100k TOYota, but ok...) and to compete with GTR (a car you bashed on non-stop from the get go, but ok...) and not with Z4s, Mustangs, etc.

In bizarro world where there is no such thing as budget or emission and safety standards...

Toyota re-releases the almightly MK4 Supra in 2020.
SF: WTF, my resale vaule took a 50%+ hit. Whos going to pay $50k+ for a 20 year old Toyota with 100k on the clock when you can just get a brand new one. F*ck you Toyota!!!!

Lmao, I was lurking over there and this is spot on. If only they would just admit that all they want to do is find justification to say every other car is inferior to the MkIV. It's not even about leveraging actual constructive criticism about the MkV, but validating their egos. I'm not saying every MkIV owner is like that, but there's definitely an air of superiority at SF.

I love the MkIV, I would love to buy one, but as prices rise, it's hard to justify paying north of 65k (for a 6pd TT) car that's probably going to hit the cliff soon in terms of spare parts. Sure the 2jz is great, but there's the rest of the car you have to maintain as well. I got the MkV because it was something different than the Mustangs and Camaros I see around, and I'll just make a decision in a year or two on what I want to do with it. I thought about used GT-Rs or a Corvette Z06, but decided to give this a try. Great car, fun to drive, not perfect by any means, but still a solid car.

That being said, I've grown up in the age of the internet, so I'm not surprised to see the majority of bad attitudes come from forums and such where anonymity protects them from having their ego shattered to pieces.

Iā€™m going to out on a limb and say a lot of MKIV owners, especially ones who bought the car after F&F came out, bought the car because it was known as the best tuner car. Because it was the best of the best, the owners by extension are the best of the best by making Supra ownership part of their identity. And now that the car is no longer at that level, those with so much ā€œprideā€ (aka superiority) are hurt or offended because it no longer means they are the best. Calling it ā€œnot a real Supraā€, saying ā€œitā€™s a good car but not a Supra,ā€ or calling it a junk BMW is what they do to validate themselves. They would have acted the same way if they RC or LC was called a Supra instead because neither are the best in their class. Itā€™s some toxic masculinity bullshit that goes deeper than just having a new car with the same name.

The Nissan Z went from a car on the same caliber as the Supra to an entry level sports car and no one batted an eye. But because the MKIV was the biggest/baddest/fastest car for tuners people are upset.

Toyota clearly has little to no intention in making MKIII/MKIV owners happy when producing new cars because they will just wine and complain it. This is evident by them reproducing discontinued parts for their cars since Toyota knows they wouldnā€™t be buying the MKV regardless.

Or atleast this is why I think someone could be frustrated or upset that the isnā€™t to their liking.

MKIV and MKV (and Beemer) owner here...

I don't think it has anything to do with MKIV ownership, it is just the internet and mods not keeping the trolls in check. Sadly it will likely spell the end of the forum in the long term being so antagonistic to new members...

From my personal experience in Asia and Australia (not US), the street/tuning scene in the nineties/2000s was much larger for Silvias, Skylines, RX7s, Evos, Wrxes, Integras and S2ks than my beloved A80 which often was pigeonholed as a drag car or dyno queen (like the GTO and 300zx). MKV seems to have addressed this... But MKV is now compared to US muscle/pony cars? You cannot win. Maybe it is a US thing...

Personally it feels like my 135i and A80 had a baby... i6 turbos for the win.

If Toyota made it in house, it wouldn't be tuner friendly. It's that simple

From what I've read, the LC500 is a 4.4 second 0-60 time. I'd say my ZHP is right around that fast and an MKV Supra is MUCH faster.

Lexus needs to do much better than that if they want to compete.

A lot of people will use price points as comparisons if they can't find anything else to debate around. Since here in the US you can get a V8 Mustang or Camaro starting at around 40k with some options, people will always draw comparisons around those cars until you get into the 60k plus range, where it would be the GT350/ZL1 among other cars. I'll fully admit that the MkV would be a bit more enticing if the prices were about 3-5k lower at each level. That being said, if you were to option out a Mustang or Camaro to have similar options to the MkV, you'd end up around or over 50k.

I was mainly looking at the Mustang over the Camaro in comparison to the MkV when deciding what car to get so one I was pricing out was like this:

Mustang GT Premium starts at 41k:
- Auto 10-speed 1,595
- 401a equipment (gets you the digital dash, BLIS, safety features, etc.) 2.2k
- Active Exhaust 895 -I'd say optional, but you can compare this to MkV sport mode
- Ford Safety Pkg (Pre collision w/ emergency braking, lanekeep, adaptive CC) 1k
- GT PP1 (Various upgrades, I would probably want this but overall optional) 5k
- MagneRide Damping 1,695

This gets you up to 54,050 MSRP. If you take away the ridiculous markups from the Toyota dealers and also consider that in due time dealers will be forced to sell below MSRP, I'd say the pricing will come back into a closer fight for the MkV, but I'm curious to know how many sports car shoppers go by budget as opposed to buying what they want and like. If anything, I'd say a better argument is maintenance costs due to the BMW collaboration, if one was to use cost to own as a point of discussion.

Also no offense intended to you as a MkIV owner. Hope that your MkIV continues to last and bring enjoyment. I'm referring to those that succumb to groupthink and go beyond critiques and get hostile with MkV owners. I completely understand the desire for a fully Toyota MkV (and also agree), but insulting others is just not the move.

Having experienced the lack of reliability in multiple BMW products, I'm certainly wary of this collaboration. To each their own.

Can't say I personally disagree with most of the above. To me, the R35 is butt ugly and auto only. The RC-F loses to the competition and auto only. LC500 also loses to the competition and is auto only. Not sure I agree that the MKV "needs" to be in the six figure range, but I would certainly like it more if it was an in-house competitive Toyota/Lexus product. With regards to the A80 re-release, we all know it would never happen, but thanks for the lol's. Again, to each their own. Carry on gents...
