Toyota GR Yaris
There is a Toyota Collection over here in Germany and the new GR Yaris debuted there today. I drove there mainly to take a look at it because Im very interested in it. Might be my next car if the finances are working out.

Anyway press pictures are always one thing but in person cars can give you a different impression. Be it more positive or negative. In the case of the Yaris it is certainly positive though. I already liked it from the pictures but seeing it in person certainly reinforced that. It's such sharp, burly and strong looking car. Especially when viewed from behind.

I have to give a huge thanks to Toyota for having the courage to release a car such as this in these times. Especially with the ever increasing emission laws over here in Europe.

Anyway I took a few pictures of the car. In hindsight I should have taken a few more but it is what it is. I think they are still enough to give an impression.

I reeeeeeeally like this thing. Do want.

Also, the green color early 90's Toyota Sera with the famous forward style gullwing doors is awesome too.

I don't think the Toyota Sera doors were gullwing style. But i know for sure the Mclaren F1 doors and door windows were inspired from the Sera.

If I'm ever in the market for a Yaris (which admittedly is unlikely at this point)... this is definitely the one I would get!

I think they called them butterfly doors, but that much that they inspired the Mclaren F1 design is fact.

Said no one, ever, about a Yaris before (this one).
I would say my Yaris GRMN neither drives, sounds or looks unsporty but of course the new turned it up a lot. After all it had a way higher budget.

Toyota USA is annoying me.

I'm guessing this whole thing is a "Do you want a hot hatch? Cool, we'll make you a GR Corolla instead of this Yaris you couldn't possible want." They did respond to some people who said they'd buy the Yaris by saying things like "We hope you take your new Yaris home soon!" but I assume that's just a marketing dummy that doesn't know what they're saying.

@A70TTR I should have picked up on this a while ago, but I wasn't familiar with the TNGA Yaris being 5-door only. If they made the GR Yaris into a 3 door, any chance that the GR Corolla will see the same transition? I know you said the Corolla would be the one to wait for, but I just don't see it unless they drop a couple of doors. I'd be in at that point.

Doesn't matter as they are TNGA centric regardless; fully modular platforms.

Euro/JP Yaris is TNGA-B (3dr)
Corolla is TNGA (5dr)

The GR-C isn't just copy pasta of the GR-Y though, at least from what has been said. I recall you saying you prefer 3dr hatches and I think that is what you were getting at here, but AFAIK a 3DR Corolla isn't happening. They would sooner bring the Euro/JP platform here IMO...

the yaris here in europe is quite different(and popular) than the one that is sold in the US , so i highly doubt they will bring the yaris just to sell a niche model of the range, the corolla is another matter though, and maybe with the hatch you will get an estate version of it with awd and a good engine.

I like on the sign the 4WD mode switch verbiage... "FR/RR base distribution" - so the engine moves depending on where you switch it?!?! o_O
At least my whole life, the initial designation was the engine placement... not the drive designation. So more like FF/FR base distribution - but then again Toyota doesn't have any FF cars... except for 90% of the 2WD cars they make that is!

Would have been better (more accurate at least) to say "adjustable drive axle bias" or something. Maybe it's different for the European market but here and Japan it's always been engine/drive axle in layouts, right? Although I do dream of a button that makes a Yaris or Corolla magically turn into a Porsche 911.:headbang:

Anymore tidbits that can be dropped?

Looks like the details are now leaking, so no point in keeping it secret.

GR Corolla will use the same exact engine as the GR Yaris but it will be adapted to the current TNGA AWD system being used in the Rav, Camry, etc

It should be coming around the same time as the Supra GRMN and apparently price isn't gonna be all that bad (if what is being said on my end is correct).
