I think $42k will be a rought sale. IMO, Toyota should have kept the B58C as the base model. Offer it with the 18in wheels, manual seats, four-speakers, spring suspension, etc. And a MT wouldn't hurt ;)

Iā€™m pretty sure Iā€™m the only odd ball happy to see 2.0 ver coming to US. I beg Tada-san to convince Toyota NA to bring it... even though he doesnā€™t have power over that part lol

I feel this open more to different buyers, like lady who likes the looks of Supra, but doesnā€™t care about performance or HP (just an example). I get that some Supra fans complaining about how 4 cylinder Supra shouldnā€™t be called ā€œSupraā€. Iā€™ve talked to Tada-san saying I was surprised to not naming 4 cylinder ver ā€œCelicaā€ & 6 cylinder ver ā€œSupraā€. Thatā€™ll make BOTH Celica & Supra fans happy... but whatever, no point complaining about it now.

BUT Toyota NA kinda messed up on 2.0 options IMO. They literally put SZ model option (lowest model in JP) w SZ-R engine. No AVS, Active Dif & other SZ-R options are missing & wants SZ-R price tag? Oof... Hope to see more options for 2.0 in the future, but time will tell.

Hot damn! These, coming from you should say something about, or something to Toyota NA... I'm only hoping that BMW somehow is strong-arming Toyota for these terrible decisions..

I will say this though, he did say that those who are considering swapping 2JZ's should go for the 2L version, which somewhat could be considered as a hint that it'll come to US, but could also be that he was just considering Japan for his comment...

Someone in Toyota NA market or something along the line decide what kind of option we (US) gets & not BMW... well at least for option of Supra anyways. Production amount of Supra, BMW might have some say to it. Like how Subaru had some say of production 86 vs BRZ.

So someone in Toyota NA thought only customer whoā€™s interested in 2.0 Supra prob gonna swap 2JZ, so just took off all the options off & called it good. SMH

Sadly Iā€™m just single fan whoā€™s lucky & blessed to know few Toyota ppl... but not powerful enough to change the fate of production.

I'm not anti 4 banger. Toyota should have definitely called this a "Celica". Do the whole Firebird vs Trans AM treatment.

So yeah, kinda proves my point. If true, $42k is a lot. And if more options are offered later on how much would that be? Will it start approaching on the $49k price tag of the current base 3.0?

My prediction is the 2.0 model will sell poorly in the US and Toyota will eventually pull the plug on it.

Yeah, I'm no horsepower guy at all, but 40k+ for a four cylinder with that much power is too much.

Yeah the 2.0 is pretty much going to be people who want a 3.0 Supra but canā€™t afford it but donā€™t want the 86 either type fan base. I donā€™t have a problem with the 2.0. I think right now is a great time for a new Supra buyer. They can pick from a MY20 3.0 for probably under MSRP plenty on the lots now or wait on a MY21 2.0 or the more hp 3.0.

There are many coupes with ~250hp 4 pots for $40k+

Such as the Lexus RC300, Audi TT, Audi A5, Mercedes C300, BMW 430i, BMW Z4 30i.

Although not something I would buy, there is clearly a market for them.

Same here, but we were also under the impression that the 255hp 2.0 for the US would have the same equipment as the Japanese counterpart. Like the mod's post above stated, this is basically the stripped out Japanese model with the more powerful tune.

I'm glad you posted this. There will also most likely be tons of 2020 base model years sitting on the lots by the time the 2021 2.0 reaches showroom floors. The 2020 year models are still in production until March. I would not be surprised if dealers let the 3.0 base go for near the price tag of the 2.0. Then the question is, if so, is anyone really going to pick a 2.0 over a base 3.0 for nearly the same price?

Right, but all of those are also luxury brands, and most of them have back seats.

they should put the new inline 4 motor in the 86 so that it is finally true 86 not flat 4 boxer engine. DUH!!!!!!

Instead they put inline 4 on the supra and call it a supra. BIG MISTAKE!!!!
