Curious if they will see as much of a gain with a tune and downpipe as ours.
Per Toyota:

The increased output results from a slew of upgrades throughout the engine. The new dual-branch exhaust manifold, with six ports instead of two, improves heat management. A new piston design reduces the engine’s compression ratio from 11:1 to 10.2:1.

Toyota was probably able to extract a little more power with the better components and reduced compression ratio. Who knows how much of a difference compared to MY20 until someone dynos both.

So there has been talk that the B58 heads/tune are being completely changed for the 2021 model, and thus making aftermarket support for the 2020 models obsolete. This is my concern right now. Maybe it is just me being not that educated in how this level of modification works.

Can anyone provide any additional insight or input on this?

Thank,
-V
Shouldn't be a big deal. The best bang/dollar is removing the factory catalytic converter. This is basically just removing the factory cat and replacing it with a hollow tube that sits outside of the engine.

Your speaking like you have dynoed a new 2021 Supra with a dyno graph. Please Enlighten us with your super knowledge that you keep sharing with us. :)
The 382HP engine has been in 3-4 BMW models since spring 2019 so there is plenty of information on it already.

Some may disagree but I feel Toyota just screwed over all MY2020 early adopters. The same guys and ladies who defended the car when everybody was giving it shit
This is exactly correct. It's why it feels so bad. We bought it in spite of all the hate to support the heritage and brand. Annnnnnd we get dumped on. Lesson learned.

Been lurking around here thinking about getting a supra but really glad I didn't.

I make it a point not to pay mark up on something and I'm in a bit of a shock that it paid off in heaps this time. Quite literally...

Sorry to those of you who paid the mark up. I would say that at least it went to the car company you guys admire but that's probably false as it probably benefited those greedy dealerships instead. :p

Well I am trying to be positive about it, the current version with just tune and DP already need better tires, is not like we are missing in power. Maybe the new version would be capable of even more power, but still will face the same limitation of the transmission and the HPFP still won't be capable for full E85. So is not like it will smoke the current version by any means.

The only real downside I see is the aftermarket support shifting to the next version and forgetting about this one.

I'm sorry for the ones feeling jaded by Toyota, but you got to do your research before hand. I wouldn't walk into a dealer and buy a $50k+ car without doing some research. It's been exhausted on this forum months before actual release.

But, a lesson I learned is, if you're always looking outward you'll never be satisfied. Enjoy your cars :).

I know some people defend Toyota here with saying we knew this was coming all along, but everything about this car and Toyota sports cars lately have been "if there is enough interest", maybe, shoulda coulda woulda "new powerful version may, could, will come out..". Yes, forum members with connections did for sure say 382 was coming, but I think many people like me chose to not believe that it'd come up within a year especially with launch problems both in shipping and quality and with less than ideal sales figures... and also LE editions being hyped up like it's the next best thing...
So where is the manual version? Wait 1 more year to get that or 2 ? Are we expected to buy all or wait forever for better and better... OR will we never again get an even more powerful version and this was one of?? Where are the answers to those?
Economy and global sales for cars are down. Will I sell the car for a loss, if you even can now....
Supposedly Toyota had sent the MY20 cars to tuning companies so that they can play around with it. What was that then? Another ploy?
Are tuning companies going to ditch MY20 now?

I don't mind being an early adopter for many things. There is always the "con" of being early whether it's a car, phone, software. You get access to it first and enjoy it whilst other people sit and wait, maybe experience some issues to be resolved on the way, but with weak LE distinction and "new" engine and new color (for sure next year more colors?), many feel like they were actually "conned". I can't tell if this is a messed up intentional sales strategy or just poor planning.... (yeah ok it is strategy, but so insulting!)
Also millions of other rumors about the next 86 better and more powerful than Supra. f'ing hype hype hype... So don't get the Supra and wait for 86? Celica?

How about a petition for 1 year leases? They can take back the car and scrap it for parts if they like, but I'm totally wholly against this new age release a new thing every year!! I got delivery late Summer, many got it even later and didn't get to enjoy it as much and this is like a slap in the face... I feel the same way about the phones. I can live with my phone for more than 1 year. It's OK, properly come up with unique features, resolve all issues and release it in 2 years....
Please don't be so high and mighty and say, we knew this you should have done the research...As I stated above, research says don't buy one for the next 5 years...
I feel like those who say this, are either OK with the change, or were or are never going to buy it, or maybe not in a rush to get a new car in 2019.

In addition, last January they announced the Supra right and with all issues earliest people got their car was like July, was supposed to be June 22... Now, hopefully they won't have the same f'ups, so they'll debut the cars maybe as early as May? So, that's not even a year. whatever, even if it's a year, still not justified..
Yes I'm butt hurt.

What research are you talking about?

Toyota did not tell us they were basically changing the heads/engine and full on suspension and stiffening when the 2020 was coming out.

How would we know there would be such a drastic change after one year only?

We knew there would be stronger variants in the future (3-5 years), etc...but a full on engine change, not just the tune/hp numbers thats the concern, and suspension upgrades all around.

They basically cancelled out the initial LE for MY20 and made new LE for the 2021 as well...how does that make sense? I guarantee no one that bought a 2020 LE, either over sticker or at a good price was expecting that. No one knew it was this drastic of a change so soon.
