I was one of the first in Canada to jump into my supra and I had no regrets. I fully wished for improvements to bring new happy customers to this platform. But my particular model is squirrely and bipolar on exiting turns and if I give it any extra gas with some spirit in it. This is city driving that is making this weird back end feedback. And no it's not just me. Seeing the change to the front struts and tweaking the stability control etc means toyota knew they had this issue in the first place. That is why I feel burned. What will warranty actually do for me? My car is left in storage to deal with it come spring. It sucks for me. And I am a day one owner July 24 2019 and have defended this car while quietly dealing with this back end breaking off for no reason.

2001 Z3M: 240hp. 2002 Z3M: 315hp.
2017 M2: 365hp. 2018 M2: 405hp.
2010 135i: N54. 2011 135i: N55 (no power difference but 10% fuel economy savings).

Didn't I tell you the Supra was a BMW product through and through? Welcome to the world of German engineering where on any given day you get the product they're ready to give you on that day.
The first US model year M2 was a 2016 with the N55 engine. The M2C with the S55 didn't come until the 2019 model year. There were changes for the 2018, but they were all cosmetic.

I dont think A90 users should have any regrets at all. Your cars are already putting out around 370HP irrespective of what Toyota is saying. So its just a bump of 15HP which I dont think is that big a deal considering Toyota might ask 55-60K for the new car. Way more than the starting price of 49990 for the A90. If one does go for the cheaper version they will end up with a 4 cylinder with no adaptive suspension, shitty looking wheels and manually adjustable seats. I mean who wants to get into a sports car and move the seats manually. Yuck! I was waiting for the last one month to see if the cheaper option is what I would prefer. but considering all the drawbacks of the 4 cylinders and the price hike for the 6 cylinders, I would rather just have the A90 in a color I like.

Does anyone disagree with this?

Doesn't change my point: every BMW model gets a new motor as soon as that motor is ready for that model. For a less sexy example, right now, G20/G21 320d (European models) are getting the mild hybrid setup with the 48V electric system, even though the models are a year old - because that mild hybrid system wasn't ready when G20 was released, but is ready now.

I don't know whether to try and sell now and go a different way or just accept the fact that I own the worst version of the MK5.

I think it's especially bad to do this to a brand new car after the first year. It isn't as if we can reap the benefits of the 21's with a tune. A downpipe and tune is going to take them a lot further. It is also going to steer the aftermarket away from us, 5-6 years on B58D's vs 1 on the B58C.

It's just by far the most severe buyer's remorse I've ever had. And for it to be over a car I loved as a car guy is even more brutal.

Are there any positives for current owners here that I'm missing?
I totally feel you on that one but Tada-san made it known that he wanted to do more frequent updates during the MKV's production life cycle. Dropping 60K on a car is a huge financial commitment so if you feel jaded, CarMax it immediately. There's no sense paying for a car that is not only going to depreciate substantially now with the newer version engine and you're not satisfied with.

Get a 911 or a Cayman. It'll help ease the pain.

Not to mention back in 2006 newly introduced E90 330i discontinued the next year for 335i. You think people are upset now about a relatively small hp bump, when the 2007 E90 335i went from NA I6 to twin turbo I6.

They might bump up the price so cost to value probably will change. Am I semi bummed? Yes, but i'm more upset that Phantom grey took forever to come out. I got my car early August and didn't feel like waiting months to get the car. Plus, I've seen only like 2 Phantoms arrive to dealership close to me.

I'm just going to throw this out there but if you are truly unhappy with the car, then sell it back to the dealer/carmax/ or some other place. Sure you will take a loss but it shouldn't be too significant. Then when the 2021 comes out you can go buy that and hope that MSRP on the car hasn't gone up. If it stays the same you might come out ahead and have a the next best thing.
The problem with that scenario is the $6,000 I have thrown at the car for PPF, ceramic coating, tinted windows, etc. Never going to recoup that. Then to do it all over again for just 1 model year newer car? Oh hell no. The more I think about this the more pissed I am.

Yeah. I agree on your point. Was just trying to keep the facts straight on the M2. Which incidentally is the only BMW I know anything about. Well, except for the Supra I suppose :D

I don't understand why people are so mad. Model revision that we already knew was coming, with what appears to be the same engine currently being used by the Z4. From what I've seen with power figures on that with similar parts as the B58 in the Supra, numbers are very similar.

Nice car and very fun to drive and I have no buyers remorse about it. Only thing I was mildly interested in were the chassis tweaks, but the few complaints I have with on track handling can probably be rectified with aftermarket parts. Damn, are these threads gonna be an annual occurrence with each MY update? Be happy with what you have, it's still a great car and IMO the updates aren't anything to be upset about or to be contemplating selling to get the latest model.

Don't the Z4 and Supra already dyno with very similar results? If that's the case can we be certain that this power bump will actually be realized in the real world?
