Has anyone ran into this issue?

It’s about 25 out. Decided to take the car for a drive down to the store. Opened the door fine but when I sat down and tried to close the door - it wouldn’t. I noticed the the window wouldn’t “dip” and the car kept reading that the door wasn’t closed. I tried playing with the up and down switch and the windows wouldn’t work at all (on both sides).

After about 3-5 minutes the issue resolved itself (the car and the inside warmed up). This is the second time this has happened.

Anyone run into this? Any solution(s) besides wait and let it warm up? Don’t wanna keeping slamming my door over and over again..

Normal behavior for frameless to freeze up.
You can use deicing or warm water to speed up.
No remote start, so no better solution imho.

To clarify, i have not driven the Supra below 40F and i never experienced door not closing.

My 86 did experience window freeze issue as I drove it all year long. Then controls would get stuck afterwards. There is a TSB for it.

:dunno:, I’ve had two other cars with frameless windows. Don’t know if the windows froze in the mini but I’ve never had an issue with closing the door. F-body - well that was a brute. It didn’t care.

Just found it odd. Guess I’ll have to live with it.

One of mine froze shut with -20C wind chill (it was the side facing the wind). Had to get together the courage the close the door but it closed fine in the end.

Mine froze shut also, he door would close no matter how hard I slammed the door. I found another solution was to push the door close and lock the door with the keys.

It's not uncommon, usually caused by frozen moisture that attaches the horizontal weatherstrip to the window glass. One trick is to use windshield cleaning fluid as deicer. I pour it in small amount from the gallon bottle onto the glass; I imagine using a spray bottle is a more logical way for multiple reasons.

Yes this happened to me twice already. Had to slam the door hard to get it to shut fully. After doing a little research I found that silicone lubricant on all the rubber trims around the windows and doors prevents the glass from sticking to the rubber, which is why the window won't drop down when the door is opened. When the rubber seals are nice and dry, lower your windows down all the way and open the doors. Then, spray some silicone on a rag and wipe down all your rubber seals. I wouldn't recommend spraying the rubber directly because it could squirt into the car and that'd be no bueno. Be sure to give the edges of the glass a light coating. Not too much as you don't want a slippery mess on everything, just enough so water is repelled from all the sealing surfaces. Raise and lower the window a few times to distribute the silicone. Do this every month or so when temps drop below freezing. Also, it's not good to slam the door shut without the window dropping. It's better to leave it half-closed while the car warms up until it's unfrozen. Then open and close as normal.

I legit had this happen to me twice last week for the first time.

It's because its very cold and the window doesn't adjust when opening/closing, until things warm up. It is annoying, but at least its not a serious issue, unless you are in a hurry.

Hey all - reviving this thread as this just happened to my gfs Supra yesterday.

I was going nuts trying to drive it and it would put it in park (that's what led me here to the seatbelt trick).

Anyway, I was warming the car up for a good 1/2 hour and the window would not budge. Finally learned how to drive (with seatbelt on) and it cranked out some heat and the window finally freed. I was too scared to slam it for fear of shattering the window in ~20 degree weather.

I have Gummi Pflege Stift which is the window/door seal treatment which is used by BMW. I recently used this on my Nissan and said goodbye to sticking doors. Really good stuff.

On to my question: Where do I apply it on the Supra to prevent the window freezing closed?

Because I can get the door open it's not sticking to the frame - is it sticking on the rubber gasket between the door and window?

I plan to treat all the door/body seals but that will not prevent the window issue.

Thanks!

Edit - this piece?

The arrowed piece, and the channel that the glass sits in when fully rolled up.

Excellent - thanks!

Now the trick is how to do this without making the window a smeary mess :D

I plan to hit all the rubber I see - hopefully this will prevent the issue as last night I was working on this for an hour...

With the window all the way down, you should be able to coat the insides of those rubber seals that contact the window as it rolls up. You may need to press the window switch down to get it fully down.

Thanks - the Gummi needs to dry so I may have to give up the garage and move the Supra in for the night :)

I'm gonna hop in this thread too and ask a window question... does anyone else have an issue (mainly in the cold during winter) where they'll open a door and then close it and the window will literally roll itself halfway down? I'm not talking about the small drop to clear the weather strip. It literally rolls about ⅔ of the way down and stays there.

I can't seem to replicate it, it just happens randomly. It's caused me to be walk away from my car a few times basically leaving it wide open because I had no idea the window dropped down.

I hope Toyota knows this is happening.
