Just came back from the dealer where I bought my 2020. They were also very surprised by the update and not totally happy, as they have a 2020 there and more coming and, the owner bought 2 2020 units. :^) Though he can sell them easily and is quite well off.

Yeah my dealer I work at still have two sitting with mark ups but they can sell at msrp easy Iā€™m sure within the few months before the 21 models come rolling in. There simply will be no updates, compensation, freebys of any kind. In short yes we 20 owners got bamboozled. Iā€™ve never heard of another manufacturer making this many changes before the first year runs even ended. My dealer offered to buy back my car for a decent price since Iā€™ve been complaining about it and I work for them.. but still Iā€™d be losing a ton of money.

Lmao. I just got an email back from Toyota:

Thank you for contacting Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc.

We apologize for your frustrations regarding the 2021 Toyota GR Supra.

While Toyota strives to innovate and look for ways to include new technology in our vehicles, Toyota has not announced any such retrofit strategy at this time.

We certainly appreciate your inquiry and interest. You can sign up for the latest updates with our RSS Feeds and/or receive email alerts when new information is posted in the Toyota USA Newsroom.

Your feedback has been documented at our National Headquarters. If we can be of further assistance, please feel free to contact us.

Sincerely,

Desirae D.

Did you expect a million dollar conglomerate to send you back anything more than a canned email response?

hey, why are you on this forum? Just to be a smart ass and troll peopleā€™s threads? We donā€™t need that here. Itā€™s uncalled for.

Obviously not.. but it doesnā€™t hurt to reach out and make your voice heard. I completely respect OPā€™s decision to reach out and if a petition started Iā€™d definitely sign it too. Do you own a Supra?

i wasnā€™t going to start a petition but didnā€™t think it was far fetched for a software update because Toyota dealers recently was providing existing owners with updates to the infotainment system so Apple car play would be added in certain year vehicles. Itā€™s just wishful thinking, nothing else.

Which unfortunately, is likely to result in settlements around the same $125.00 I got when the "accelerator recalls" debacle tanked the value of my IS350... despite not being directly affected by the problem. I guess if you took that $125 to a tuner along with a case of beer... you'd get closer to MY21 performance at least...

Unless you're an attorney... in which case you'd be all set to make about $80M of such a lawsuit... so get crackin' on that. All class action litigation ever does is enrich the litigators, and "punish" the manufacturer slightly... they virtually never make whole the victims of the original complaint.

I was remembering that settlement incorrectly in the past, thinking it was much better than it was... now I'm "re-bittered" a bit... thanks! :p

I purchased the Supra with the intentions of keeping a warranty for a long, long while and it is absolutely a bummer that less than 4 months later Toyota releases a completely revised engine with more power that will come with a warranty.
You are looking at this in a bit of a short term vacuum. The 382HP engine was already out and available in several BMW models before the 2020 Supra even went on sale. And in the same timeframe, we already knew it would be coming to the Supra for 2021. So Toyota didn't "revise" the engine. And to respond to comments I've seen in other threads, Toyota didn't "improve" the engine because of issues or limitations. They simply planned to introduce the Supra with the 335HP engine in 2020 and change over to the 382HP engine for 2021. Both engines were already in production and available long before this became a crisis for 2020 Supra owners.

Much needed gauges in sports displays
I smashed the like button SO fast on this!

The HP/TQ gauges in sports cars dont mean anything. I don't get why auto manufacturers do this...It's clearly electronically linked to the engine ECU, put something of use in there lol easy, and no extra cost.

So is that coming to existing owners?

Updated sports displays shouldn't be iDrive dependent necessarily... but I imagine they will simply because Toyota isn't going to bother spending one second or one dollar on updating the 2020 in any way - no matter how happy it would make us. Just allowing a switch to have the diagnostic mode data appear without going through the Nintendo cheat every time would be better than nothing.

They should have just stuck the BimmerLink app in there instead of the HP/TQ "gauges". :p
