I first did detail on mine, and got a little yellow, so it seems not (I don't care for clear coat) but I am still not sure. I asked the dealer, they don't know, as usual. I enjoy waxing my car, but not the FJ Cruiser (too large and hard to do the top) and like working with the paint with detailing. I use all One Grand Auto products, which are hard to get now, but having used them for 30 years, I know the true long last results and it has been better than anything else I have every used.

There's definitely clear coat on the car. Did you use a rotary buffer on it when you detailed?

No, I never use a buffer, all by hand.

Before I bought the car, I noted that it had a fine layer on it, that needed detail to take off (most likely from transport, but like a fine grit every few inches.) But they didn't do anything and then after I bought the car, I let them know about it again. They said they would detail it but I didn't trust them so have done it myself.

Car manufacturers have been using clearcoat for decades. Most have been using it for over 30years.

The word "detail" has been so loosely used over the years. Sorry but a wash and wax does not constitute a detail.

You should not be seeing yellow. I hope it is just contaminates that you are seeing because if it is really the yellow paint, you just destroyed the clear and the paint will not last much longer.
The clear coat is what protects the color and is the only reason why cars shine. You need to care for your clear.

I'm curious what you are using to "wax" your car. When you say you dont care for clear, I wonder if you know the difference between compound, polish and wax.

If you have a fine grit on a car you should not be polishing, bugging, waxing. that is how swirls are formed in the paint. It needs to be washed properly and if still there you should be looking at chemical removal such as iron x or physical removal with a clay bar and lube. Once the car has been clayed or has had successful chemical removal, then you can look at the next steps, be it polishing, waxing, etc.

If you polish you do not want to use any compound that has abrasives unless you know what you are doing. The last thing you want to do is burn through the clear.

How long and where was it parked prior to receipt? Unless it's pollen, there shouldn't be any yellow coming off a new car... I've got the nitro and there's never been any yellow when wiping it down - even with detailing spray upon receipt (just a bit of blackish dust from the road during transport and what settled on it in the showroom). Anything without a clear coat (at least on gloss finishes) is either an unfinished paint job or a destructive "detail" job.

Toyota has some single stage paint colors. With that said, the vast majority of cars, Toyota or not, have a clear on them.
usually single stage paint jobs are under the hood. The A90 actually has a nice clear coat under the Engine bay as well. Super glossy.

Not a fine grit that moves around. I used to work for car care chemical company. I thought that when someone says detailed, that it would be understood that it was a process of cleaning the surface correctly to get rid of any stuck on "stuff", a prep and then wax. I use the right products for this, and do Not use anything but by hand.

It looks fine now. I had a 1990 Mitsubishi Eclipse AWD turbo that got repainted in 91 and it was just paint, no clear coat and I always used One Grand products on it. It looked great and 20 years later still looked almost new.

Anyway, my car is good now. Don't know where the yellow came from, didn't go through any finish etc., just a simple question. :^)

On my Mitsubishi, it was a white body and black top. The top, when I would rub it out, black would come off. It was just paint with no clear, as they did on white and black for a time after they started doing clear on other finishes. The black would polish up like a mirror with great depth and I preferred it to other clear finished black I had seen but I also understand the advantage and 99% use of clear these days and for the past 30 or so years.

Yesterday I was waiting for my wife and a car pulls up and this guy is screaming. I thought, what the hell? He jumps out and says, "a supra! a supra!" lol He asked to please video it and then said, "I was screaming like a little girl." His buddy said he wet himself. I said, I hope you toweled him off. lol

many non-metallic black, white, and red paint jobs were single stage into the mid 2000s and some longer. My '13 FJ cruiser had a single stage black paint job and I believe Toyota still has white and black colors in SS.
