considered the vette but when i built it out it came out to be like 78k. i don't want a base vette. not interested in a 4 banger porsche. the only car that could interest me is the upcoming Z but nissan is in the dumps right now so i dont think its going to come out or it will be delayed for a long time. this would be the only car that could sway me away from a supra but i have no faith in nissan right now.

The '21 Cayman will be available with a NA 6 MT.

Never cared for the 280 but always wanted a 240. Maybe in a "sort of" way that is what drew me to the 2020.
That's interesting, the 240 and 280 were very close in appearance...the 280Z got different bumpers, more displacement, and a bullitproof Bosch fuel injection system. They were also easier to find used by the early 80s. Was is the bigger bumpers? The 280ZX was an extensive redesign, and heavier...

i'm guessing it will be way out of my price range which is like ~55k
Yep...Porsche are proud of their boxer 6s...BTW, my cars have spanned a fairly large price differential, and to me, more expense and power doesn't always equal more fun. ;)

Yes it will then. I'm guessing it will be just a hair under $100K since as far as I'm aware the 4.0 NA 6 will only be available in the GTS (and assumedly in the GT4 but that will definitely be over $100K). Probably MSRP for the GTS will be $80K or so, but you would have to order one to get it that cheap - and once you're ordering the urge to add ceramic brakes for $12K or upgrade the seats to 18-way for $2K will be too great, and you'll be at $100K (or over) before you know it.

Unless you spend more time at the track than on the street, or you really enjoy spending time in jail with your car in the impound lot... it's almost always the inverse IME. Most consistently fun car I've owned was my '91 CRX (with many upgrades)... it made the speed limit feel (and sound) like you were flying! My RC-F was the total opposite. That car was boring right up to the limit (which was well into "go directly to jail" levels) and then suddenly past the limit just dangerous and scary.

My '16 Cayman was very similar to the CRX... it was a fantastic driver's car - it was just a little too ascetic for a daily IMO. As a weekend only car, it was just about perfect and every bit as much fun at 50mph as it was at 100+. I still think having to turn a key to start it is taking the definition of "base" to a problematic level in a $60K car manufactured after 2010. ;)

Interesting, I found the RCF to be easy to slide around around in S+, and the brakes are good. Like Pobst said, while running hot laps in the RCF: "a monkey could drive this thing". The only thing Toyota/Lexus late model vehicles do that catches me off guard sometimes is when the "pre-collision" system hits the freaking brakes unnecessarily. The RCF is a beast, and can be a hand full like any high HP front engine/rear drive car with TC off, but what exactly did you find wrong with the handling? Were you on stock suspension & alignment?

On the P car, definitely upgrade the seats to the 18 way, and a hard "no" on $12K ceramic brakes, unless your racing it, or putting a lot of hard track miles on it. If it's the former, Porsche may have a stripped down version for that...

2020 3.0 Premium Supra - Nitro Yellow
I think that your list is a good, one, however I'd really echo the sentiment of others about the Z being outdated. I probably care about interior more than most sports car buyers, so the Z was more or less an immediate elimination. I was also considering a Mustang GT Premium but ended up with the Supra because I am admittedly a Supra/JDM fan (insert comments regarding Germany) and it's way more unique than Mustangs which I see every day due to the V6 models.

The problem with the C8 is that I think I wouldn't have been happy with a LT1 Z51 (around 65k before fees) and would have wanted at least the LT2 Z51, which is over 70k and way out of the budget I had set. I think the same is true with the Cayman, and I would have found myself wanting a higher trim level that would be out of my budget.

I think that the Supra is a great price to performance ratio and the only thing to consider is long term reliability given BMW. Really the only competitive cars off the top of my head relatively in the price range are BMW M2 and the big 3 US sports cars. I saw the Lexus RC-F being mentioned by digicidal, which is another solid choice.

I assume that you wouldn't be listing off cars you can't afford so if you can go for a GT500, those are pretty cool imo but out of my budget. If I didn't already have my Supra, I'd probably just wait to see what MY22 brings, but that's just me. Enjoy the search for your new sports car!

I was referring to the new gen Nissan Z, which has no official specs released yet. I've owned a RCF-great car, except for the acceleration lag, occurring sporadically when the accelerator is floored.

I hope the new Z is everything the old one was almost 20 years ago when it was reintroduced. Had an '06 350Z and loved it - though it definitely needed the turbo kit to get fun. I might consider getting one after a couple years of enjoying the MKV, but I'm afraid they're going to go in a bad direction with it (i.e. keep the ultra cheap interior so it's ~$40K MSRP). If they pushed that to $50K and gave it good seats and better quality materials than the last 2 "revisions" I'd be happy to side-grade to that.
So a q60 rs? If you don't need a manual and don't care about the added weight of the "good seats and better quality materials", then you're already set, no?

^ Yeah, I mean the new Z will essentially just be a lighter/manual Q60RS from what I've read and heard from some friends that work over at Nissan. But hey, that sounds like a win to me haha.

I liked my Q50RS, but with less weight an even a better AT (let alone MT) it would have been far better.

the advertised performance of the vette wont really matter to me, they are going to be a dime a dozen...I just cant. The New Z will have to wait and see but Im not expecting much more than a tuned up q60 motor...cayman shmayman...too pricey for what you get. If you want a Supra wait until 2021. Have you looked at the Audi TTRS? Thats a monster for the same price range, rare, and the mod-ability is INSANE.

I definitely do care about the manual... and want it. I definitely wasn't a fan of the Q60RS - that was my first choice when released (had a G37S at the time)... but no manual and much worse DBW feel made it a non-starter. Biggest problem I have with the Q60 over the Z (and one of my biggest "gains" going from the RC-F to the Supra) is my hatred of a useless back seat. Heavy, pointless, and GT cars just always feel "wrong" to me balance-wise.

But yes, as long as the interior was identical to their Infiniti line but it remained a 2 seat sports car and had a 6MT... I'd switch in a hot second. If I have to have the Nissan 7AT and a useless back seat - I'll just keep my MKV. ;)

The 6MT 350Z I owned was far from perfect... but the engine and transmission were perfectly workable. The manual seat adjustments which allowed a range of uncomfortable to very uncomfortable on the other hand... not as much.

And beautiful as well... the styling is almost perfect - but if it was completely perfect it would be called an R8. :D I just wish I didn't know so many horror stories of past Audi owners around me... you know the "bang! drivetrain all over the freeway" kind of horror stories.

Saw one at a restaurant today in a crazy (in a good way) purple-ish metallic paint. Looked fantastic!
