Toyota definitely still uses single stage for some colours (040 and 202 come to mind as A70TTR alluded to). That said, I don't believe any of the Supra colours are single stage.

I had color transfer but the paint job was from 1991, a redo on an Eclipse Turbo model. Held up beautiful and polished out like glass. What ever works. :^) I want something to protect the front of my car, a clear bra. Just finding out who will do a good job here in Tucson. My 040 has clear. All the 040s we fix has clear. The 040 Rav4 the I just assessed has clear.
I've been in the repair industry for a long time. Modern cars use a 2 stage paint system with the exception of tri coats.
Only time I see single stage paint is if someone touched up their car or if they had some cheap body work done.
You should not have color transfer onto your pad.
Dear Mr. XXXXXXX:
Thank you for contacting Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc.
We appreciate the opportunity to address your inquiry.
The Super White paint applied to your Tundra is a single stage paint coating. Vehicles painted with non-metallic colors have no clear coat finish. Paint colors that are available in a metallic or pearl will have a clear coat finish.
We hope this information has been helpful.
If we can be of further assistance, please feel free to contact us http://www.toyota.com/help/contactus.html.

I work in the paint shop at a toyota factory, 040 super white is single stage, (no clear), on all Toyotas. Whether the black is single stage or base/clear depends on which plant the vehicle is produced at. I work at the Georgetown Ky plant (Camry, Avalon, Venza) and we use base/clear while some of the other plants do not. Why? Beats me. I've been askin that question since I've benn there, 17 years. As for the 040, It's just cheaper that way.
2017:I called Toyota and confirmed directly from Toyota that superwhite on my 2015 4runner does not have a clear coat. It is a single stage paint with "the clear mixed in" as I was told from Toyota.
2018:None of the other colors are single stage for the 4runner. I paint at a Toyota bodyshop.
Super white can be blended with base/clear and it should look perfectly fine if the painter is decent.
Super White still is only Single Stage paint. I have/had a letter from Toyota Corporate to prove it. this has been gone over on this forum many times. it has a mid clear mixed into the paint, but it isn't the same as spraying base coat then spraying a clear coat over it.
