It almost looks like the door blade was painted separately and the robot ran out of paint. That's definitely not properly covered. Not normal.
All plastic parts are painted separately.

I think this is the similar issue to the old RX7s bumpers. The bumpers were painted in a separate factory than the bodies and metal parts and were a completely different shade. It was most apparent on the red models.

With our cars they got the shade of color right, but the factory handling the plastic parts did not cover them enough. Itā€™s not just the door garnish, all of the plastic pieces can be seen through under the right light.

Pretty sure all the plastic/ fiberglass parts it's like that. Different surface or outsourced painting.

Regardless of outsourced or painted inhouse, it should be a better quality paint job

thatā€™s exactly what Iā€™ve been saying and just wanted to give a photo that confirms it. Every plastic piece on this car is see through.

It sucks but I doubt they'll do anything.

Saved at least a ounce of weight! That's like an extra .0001 seconds in the quarter mile! :D

Hey guys,

Well it's been awhile and I have an update for you all. This issue was escalated all the way upto the Executive Office at Toyota. I learned a few things along the way. A few months back, I hit a road block due to the Field Engineer's write-up. He deemed the paint issue "Normal" based on one other car he looked at and apparently had the same paint characteristics. Once the Field Engineer makes a decision on the issue, that is it. There is no way to escalate it beyond him and go against his judgement. Well I that that was the biggest BS!

So I wrote an email to all the Toyota Executives email I could find online and upon sending that email, I got a response from the Executive Office the very next day. They flew an Engineer out from Texas to MD where I live to inspect the vehicle. There were big heads from my region at the dealership and along with the Field Engineer that initially inspected my car. He continued to make a side comment that this is crazy and it's not going to change anything. They gave me a loaner car while they inspected the car. I told them I am not leaving and going to stay and get this issue resolved TODAY. About an hour later, they called me over the the office. I noticed the Field Engineer sitting in the corner quietly when I walked in.

The Engineer from Texas takes away the silence in the room by stating that there is a paint defect on my car. He continued saying that my speculation was correct and went about apologizing. 6months later, with a competent Engineer from Toyota acknowledged the issue. They ordered brand new door garnish and told me I can choose the bodyshop that can work on the car. They ordered the dealer to make sure to send the existing pieces undamaged back to Texas so they can dig into the issue.

The whole process moved fairly quickly. I got my car back from from the bodyshop. The sad part is that the new painted finish looks wayy better than the rest of the car and significantly less orange peel... But the important part is that I got my car taken care of.

If any Nocturnal Supra owners have the same issue, reach out to me. I will forward the contact info at the Toyota Executive office so your issue gets taken care of!

Can you ask them to look into the other colors while they are at it?
This paint coverage issue appears to be on other colors as well. Like Waferz see through red mirror caps.

If you think you have a paint issue on yours, I'd start a process with your dealer first. Take it into your dealer and tell them there is a paint issue. Most likely they will say a Toyota Rep would need to come out to look at it. You need to start a formal process first.

Holy sh*#t! That is really bad. I would call corporate and let them know. Don't waste time on the dealership. Let corporate know that the dealership did not want to fix the issue since it's under warranty. If that doesn't help contact the BBB and file a complaint. They have to fix it.

I have the absolute white so I don't notice it and I had the car paint corrected and ceramic coated. I have noticed only in the dark with an LED light that the rear number has some places faded a tiny bit, bit you have to be up close and personal. You can't see anything in the light. Sorry to hear and see the pics. Im in pain looking at it already.

On a side note, anyone find this paint color chips easy? My front bumper is terrible with only 1500 miles on it.
On the front splitter. I wish the dealership had touch up paint for that. I really need it till I go back to the ceramic coat ship to fix it.
