whaaaatttt
Porsche is strictly a luxury sports car segment (sure sedan and SUVs now) and are in luck if they want parts from VW group.

Nissan, ? they did what? Ages ago when they were doing good and emissions were not as strict came up with 350/370Z and GTR. Now no 390Z or actual GTR updates. some fancy 50 year thingy that costs $1.2M.

Hyundia/Kia/Genesis are trying their best to enter these markets, but I don't think they're succeeding even at the much lower prices they're offering...

Chevy, Chrysler and Ford have long time American heritage with Camaro and Corvette, Charger/Challenger and Mustang. Within themselves, they share much of the engine and bunch of other parts...They have a base model that's their bread and butter that appeal to masses (not enthusiast category) and high end models that sell less.

Similarly, BMW for ages had for example 3 series and built M3 on top of it. Sure they put lots of R&D into M, but basics were there and M wasn't an afterthought or anything. So all that R&D was done from get-go with an M version in mind. Also, BMW is luxury segment.

Mazda, kudos to Mazda they're lean and efficient and the I6 announcement, but again they don't have a sports car. MX5/Miata is sharing platform with Fiat 124... No new Rotary engine. Most definitely they're making the I6 a multi-platform engine, so it'll be shared.

So, I think your argument is quite flawed...

Problem is, the idea that Toyota couldn't have it themselves is just not true. Its just a bs sales pitch Toyota is using to convince everyone that cheaping out in partnership with BMW is acceptable. Sure we all bought that for awhile, but we know better now, even if we wont admit it. WHy - simple - Porsche, NIssan, Mazda, Hyundai, Chevrolet, Ford and more, including all the super car manufacturers have done it themselves, even BMW did it themselves with the M ... but Toyota cant make one little sports car on their own? - its nonsense in hindsight. If toyota is so bad that it needs to partner with someone to make just one sports car, things are very very bad in that organisation.

The idea that Toyota HAD to partner with BMW to build the new supra is pure fantasy. Just the same as with the I6 engine excuses. THis idea that toyota couldn't make its own i6 and needs years and new factory's to do it .... again, a ton of other manufacturers make their own engines that DONT hve that problem .. an example? oh how about MAZDA who just announced their OWN new i6.

Please, enough with the Excuses already toyota... enough.
Sure, they can all produce anything but it has to be at a reasonable price, in a reasonable time frame, and a reasonable profit margin. Many manufacturers are going through huge changes right now; Ford is dropping ALL of their passenger cars with the exception of Mustang and a Focus. Toyota will follow a similar model and without the partnerships that brought the FR-S/86 and Supra, they just wouldnt have happened as the financial risk wasn't worth the investment. This is going to become more and more widespread by all the manufacturers as most of them are already working together on multiple platforms. This isn't to say an in house vehicle isn't possible, it just isn't feasible for a small sector of the market (and lets face it, the Supra caters to a microscopic market).

Despite the world market seems to like SUVs trucks and stuff I absolutely hate those useless dumbass vehicles that are heavy, slow and unable to go over a curb stone without breaking.

Akio took over in 2009 so that's when his progress started. He essentially resurrected 2 ol skool Toyota's by having 2 other car manufacturers build them.
You missed the part where he actually resurrected 2 old school Toyotas. Akio is not the problem, it's his leadership that has been pushing Toyota back into the sports car game and making the entire lineup sportier (have you seen the new Camry? When has anyone talked about a new Camry before??). I agree that partnering with BMW for the Supra was a mistake, there were several better avenues to get this car made. But if you're going to point fingers about where Toyota has taken their business in the last 2o years, point them at the greedy bastards that ran Toyota for the decade prior to Akio taking power. They are the ones that killed off every single sports car Toyota made when they didn't sell "good enough" and replaced them with a big fat nothing, and produced some of the most boring generations of Toyotas ever.

Toyota Coronavirus Financial Relief and New Car Incentives
Jack R. Nerad | Mar 30, 2020
The coronavirus pandemic and the resulting economic havoc has prompted Toyota to undertake a number of steps to help its customers buy vehicles, to assemble medical and personal protective equipment, and to provide aid to the communities it serves.

With the peak of coronavirus infections in the United States still thought to be weeks away, many states and localities have instituted severe restrictions on business operations and personal interaction. While this slows the pace of infection, at the same time it has severely limited commerce. The situation has turned markedly from just one month ago when the auto industry was enjoying one of its best February sales months in history.

Toyota is one of many carmakers that seeks to do its part to halt the epidemic and help heal the sick, while at the same time trying to keep its employees working and operate its business. Here is a recap of the coronavirus financial relief and new car incentives Toyota has assembled to deal with the crisis.

Toyota Customer Relief Programs
Toyota's finance partners Toyota Financial Services (TFS) and Lexus Financial Services (LFS) are providing payment relief options to customers who are affected by COVID-19, adding its name to the list of OEMs providing Coronavirus Car Payment Plans.

Current customers whose ability to keep up with their car loan or lease payments is threatened by illness or lack of income may be eligible to take advantage of finance contract payment extensions or lease deferred payments. Both TFS and LFS are also providing options to assist customers at or near the end of their lease who are impacted by the pandemic.

Customers who would like to understand their account and payment options are encouraged to contact TFS or LFS by phone or email. Toyota Financial Services customers may call 800-874-8822 or contact TFS via email using the mail center function after logging into ToyotaFinancial.com. Lexus Financial Services customers may call 800-874-7050 or contact LFS via email using the mail center function after logging into LexusFinancial.com.

Toyota New Car Incentives
Unlike many automakers, Toyota has not announced any national low-interest financing, rebates, deferred payments or any other incentives on its vehicles. Instead, the Toyota brand pulled its March "sales event" advertising and started running a new national ad campaign "We're here for you" with an optimistic message looking to the future beyond COVID-19. Lexus has also released its own advertising theme designed to reassure luxury customers that the brand puts "People First."

At the same time business goes on, though not as usual, it also includes regional and local promotions that vary by area.

In some regions, buyers can defer their first monthly payment for 90 days on vehicles that include Toyota Camry midsize sedan, Corolla compact sedan, Corolla Hybrid compact sedan, and Tacoma midsize pickup. Toyota’s RAV4 compact SUV and Mirai fuel-cell sedan are among the vehicles that have special incentives in specific areas of the country.

Check with Toyota's website or with your local dealer to determine what incentives are available in your area.

Toyota Factory Closures
Citing the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and what it called a "significant decline in vehicle demand," Toyota has suspended production at all of its automobile and components plants in North America, including Canada, Mexico and the U.S. The current plan is that manufacturing facilities will remain closed through April 17, resuming production on April 20. During the manufacturing hiatus, Toyota's service parts depots and vehicle logistics centers will continue to operate.

Toyota operates significant design, engineering, and assembly facilities in North America, and since opening its first factory in the region has built more than 40 million cars and trucks on this continent, including 10 factories in the U.S. Toyota directly employs more than 47,000 people (over 36,000 in the U.S.) and more than 25,000 are affected by the plant closures.

Toyota Economic Outlook & Sales Forecast
The rapid onset of the coronavirus crisis is certain to have a negative effect on total vehicle sales and on Toyota's vehicle sales in 2020. What remains to be seen is how long the drastic decline in economic activity will last and what the long-range effects of it will be. Toyota has made no public statements on the effects the crisis would have on U.S. vehicle sales and its sales for 2020.

According to Tyson Jominy, vice president of Data and Analytics at J.D. Power, both the virus and its effect on new vehicle sales are expected to grow in severity through the end of April. The progression will vary across the country with some markets several weeks behind others.

Beyond the inherent uncertainty of the virus’s progression, a key determinant of auto sales will be legal restrictions on dealership sales operations and consumer activity and movement. Because of this multi-faceted uncertainty, J.D. Power's March retail sales outlook is for a range of between 669,000 and 948,000 new vehicles. That range represents a decline of 16% to 41%, respectively, from March 2019. Some 14% to 39% of the decline is attributable to virus effects.

While this portends a major drop versus 2019 sales, there are some hopeful factors. The auto industry has historically demonstrated an ability to recoup sales lost due to short-term disruptions, so the auto industry has the potential to recover from the virus-related sales disruption, Jominy said.

J.D. Power believes the number of sales that will be recouped will be influenced by the general economic environment that exists after the virus has passed. Its pre-virus 2020 outlook of 16.8 million U.S. light-vehicle sales is no longer attainable, with sales likely to fall in the range of 14 to 16 million units.

I have lots of fun vechicles...
"Toyota was, as far as we can tell, the only automaker properly equipped to deal with chip shortages," said a person familiar with Harman International, which specializes in car audio systems, displays and driver assistance technology.
Two of the sources who spoke to Reuters are Toyota engineers, and the others are at companies involved in the chip business.

Toyota surprised rivals and investors last month when it said its output would not be disrupted significantly by chip shortages even as Volkswagen, General Motors, Ford, Honda and Stellantis, among others, have been forced to slow or suspend some production.

Toyota, meanwhile, has raised its vehicle output for the fiscal year ending this month and jacked up its full-year earnings forecast by 54%.

It appears Toyota is getting its production schedule back to normal quicker than the others vehicle manufactures!

Kudos to Toyota. Whole industry is using Toyota and Japanese driven concepts, etc. Risk assessment/management is key.

FYI, if you wanted to buy a GM vehicle and hate the start/stop, now is the time to buy as per chip shortage they're not offering it.
