I've driven the following:

S2000 (2000, 2001)
Miata ('99, 2012, 2013, 2017)
718 Cayman (2018)
M2 (2017, 2019 comp)
As a daily driver I liked the M2 Competition the most. Relatively quiet and still a blast to drive. I'd say I liked the Cayman the least. Really looking forward to driving the GR Supra to see how it compares to the M2C.

I know I'm not alan, but I've driven both. I have to say, I am glad I chose the Supra. The M2C is nice and all, but for how stiff and aggressive it is, I'd have to say it doesn't handle particularly well on the street (it's easily upset by bumps) and it's also not very pleasant to drive on the highway as expansion joints and potholes feel like you've bent a rim. But it's worst sin is this: It's not much fun to drive less than 8/10ths. The driving experience is quite numb as the steering is much too heavy and lacking in feel. Also, it's so stiff that you don't get much of a sensation of tossability, it always feels snappy and ready to oversteer unexpectedly.

Thanks for your feedback! I've noticed people trade in the M2C with pretty low miles. A lot of people say its just too stiff for the streets, and end up getting something with active dampers for a softer street ride, but can still be aggressive when they want it. Have you driven a FRS/BRZ? How would you compare the steering feel? I have a BRZ and I'm looking at the Supra as my next car. I was considering the M2C but it seemed like it was very bouncy, and tbh its kinda ugly. I still want my sports car to be attractive and make me want to look back at it.

Sadly I still haven’t gotten the chance to drive one. I was going to wait until April or May. Then the pandemic happened. My wife and I are both at risk so we have been very cautious about our levels of exposure. As such trips to dealers haven’t been high on our list.

Hah, yea I have. I've driven 2 FR-S/86s and 3 BRZs. I would say that the 86 platform is more playful. It feels very light and has somewhat better steering feel. Also, you can get the back end to move around easily in comparison to the Supra. But I still would take the Supra every day. The 86 at full throttle feels like a Supra accelerating at maybe 30-50% throttle. It's a marked difference. Also, even though the Supra is less playful, I would say that's a good thing. The speeds you are going would be terrifying if the back end stepped out.

If you were just driving for the sheer pleasure of rowing gears and sliding around, the 86 is a much better platform. It's a cheap, fun car that you can thrash and not feel bad about doing so. But if you want to go fast and have a very good all around daily while maintaining a still fun driving experience? Supra.

Sorry to hear that, definitely play it stay safe! At least there's deals to be had after this is all over.

I'm curious, why did you like the 718 the least?

I know I’m not the person you’re replying to BUT I was in the exact same situation as you before I got my Supra. I drove an FRS for 6 years (2014) in almost all the variants you can think of (stock, FBO NA, SC, and turbo) and I tracked the car a handful of times. The Supra is a much more capable car and much more comfortable/luxury on the street. However I will say that the FRS/BRZ has one of the best steering feels of all modern sports cars (besides Porsches). That and the stock low seating position is something I dearly miss that the Supra just doesn’t match. That isn’t to say that the Supra can’t handle. It just doesn’t have the weight and direct feeling through the steering like the FRS has, and definitely has more body roll than I would like. When I blew the motor of my FRS, I was looking into another relatively light weight coupe and I looked into the M2 comp and the Supra. Ultimately I decided on the Supra because of its lighter weight compared to the M2C and the fact that I knew it was meant to be a better, faster version of the 86. I have a lot more to add if you need anymore feedback just DM me as I feel that I’ve written a whole novel in this post already lol

+1
I have had two FRS / GT86 & couldn't agree more.
The FRS is way more nimble but the Supra has way more grunt

I'm curious, why did you like the 718 the least?

The 718 I drove was a base PDK. I found the transmission surprisingly slow even in sport mode, the engine had massive turbo lag and sounded bad (to my ears), and the car felt very heavy. Mind you this was just a 45 minute test drive around town. I didn't get the chance to drive it on something like a canyon road, where I'm sure it would have been a more enjoyable experience. That said, I came away with the impression that the car was simply too capable for the street or legal driving speeds to be much fun.

What was telling to me is what it felt like hopping into my GTI after the test drive. Turbo lag was significantly better, car felt lighter, and more importantly felt more fun and tossable at legal speeds.

Wow that's very interesting. That's a shame it isn't more fun to drive on the street since that's where most people would be using it. The change to a 4 cylinder engine seems to have changed the excitement the 6 cylinder had. At least when you're driving normally on streets, the sound of a nice engine is always nice. Thanks for your opinion!

I also had really hyped the car up in my mind prior to driving it. So that definitely didn't help. It's doubtful any car could live up to anticipation I had managed to build up over months of obsession with Porsches, and 718s in particular.

I will say that I was tempted to buy it based on looks alone. I absolutely loved the blue in the sun.

Man you should just like me. I love the build quality of Porsches, and also their slow depreciation curves. And the new 718 looks beautiful. Porsche is really good with curves and proportions. I can see the reality not matching up with the anticipation. I feel a Porsche sports car should be an "experience" every time your drive it. And I can see the 718s not delivering that with the new engines. Its probably why the GT cars are so desirable, they deliver that visceral sound and drama that you want from a Porsche.
