How's the A90 Supra ZF 8HP 51 transmission limitation?

It's common to have 400hp/55+nm with ECU tuning for Supra.
The question here is the maximum torque capability of ZF 8HP51. Isn't the maximum only 51Nm?
I believe most of tunned MKVs have way more torque than 51NM tho. Does it mean the actual boundary is much higher than ZF claimed?

Torque limits on transmissions, in my experience, are reliable safe ratings much like most clutch ratings. Most will hold more but it's a question of how long. In the n54 world, the trans limit was way lower but people were safely and reliably running 600wtq with the xph trans flash.

Good to know it. I just heard someone's ZF8 is damaged and I estimate the MK5 with 550HP+ and 700NM torque. It happened on a track day recenly.

Transmission manufacturers will rate an input torque for a given reliability/longevity perspective. We rate our transmissions at 1000Nm input torque (vastly less than wheel torque).

Keeping in mind the V160/161 is only rated to 450Nm.

How's the A90 Supra ZF 8HP 51 transmission limitation?
