I didn't even know the cubby existed for the first two weeks I had my car. I can sure think of better ways to spend $180 than on something you can't see unless you look through the trunk.

Meh, I've spent far more on far less...LOL!!! And it's all relative isn't it?...I'm fortunate that $180 isn't really considered a big expensive for me...It's just play money...

I also use the cubby quite a bit and it's not really out of sight...Love seeing it when I climb in for a ride....

Hey Tadda. Is there any secret to pulling up the piece with the cupholders in it? I am assuming the "entire piece" includes the leather surrounding the cupholders as well? I tried lifting with equal pressure on both sides by grabbing on the bottom of the leather underneath and pulling up, but I cant get it to budge. And of course, I don't want to break anything. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. And yes, I have removed both torx screws. :) Thanks!

You need to remove the rubber liner in the cupholder and then 2 screws that are located under the liner...Once they are removed simply grab the sides and pull up on that piece...

Thanks for such a quick response! I did remove the rubber piece and both screws. And I've tried pulling straight up on the piece in yellow above by grabbing it underneath near the seatbelt receivers. It wont budge. Does it require a ton of effort? I am pulling up quite firmly. Am I missing something? Need....moral.....support.....Thanks again!

Yes, it does require a bit of force to pull up...try by starting to pull up on the back of cover first (with hands on either side) with a short quick forceful jerk upwards...

Got it! Thanks so much! I wanted to do this project for a while now and finally found some time. The "short quick" …..well you know...that was the key. Thanks again.

Another option would be leather or alacantra cover the original piece.
Tempted to try that on the front shiny black part.

Would you say some girth was added to make the piece CF or is this the same thickness as oem?

Actually it appears to be slightly thinner and lighter weight....

Here is a pic of the underside...
