Hi! I have been heavily digging into the whole Supra/B58 tuning scene and a thought came to my mind:

Has anybody blown up their Supra yet?

I personally haven't seen any reported cases from any tuner, any power level, mods, etc. So I guess I am mostly searching for anyone who has catastrophically damaged their motor or trans. Along with that questions, has anybody else had issues with their cars in terms of day to day reliability? Small things like PCV valves, spark plugs, coolant consumption, CELs?

What's your power target? Correct me if I am wrong, but it seems that ~450 whp is a good power target for daily use, the engine won't be that stressed. Some people like @Twisted Tuning have reached the limit of the transmission before the limit of the engine, same for Adam Lz, and they are way over 650 whp...

There is also @Babayaga Supra check his channel, how many races and the car is strong as ever. To me seems the B58 is a very strong and well developed engine, and it's not new, since 2017 it was deployed on the 440i and some other cars, so far no reports of major issues. Hope someone would correct me if I am saying misleading assessments, but it's my impression from what I've read and seen.

I daily drive my supra at well past 600HP 600TQ (ill eventually dial in the tune and post it up). The trans is slipping plenty and im not having engine issues. These engines seem to be very strong. There have been some reports of trans issues from overpowering (one failure so far, mine will probably join that list soon) and a few turbos damaged. But they honestly seem like fairly reliable turbos even when pushed to the limit. I ran my wastegate at 95-100% for 10k miles without any issues. Just some inceased oil consumption.

I wonder if ppl datalog their Supra when driving on the track (autocross so no sprinting).
Do they see oilPress drops?

need for baffled sumps?
Extra oilcoolers?
High egtā€™s?

This is exciting for me! CounterSpace is sending you my ECU in a few weeks.

I've done about ten datalogs and never seen any oil pressure degradation or any of the other red flags that you mention. My attitude is that there are no guarantees. If you want to tune then tune and go with someone who has a lot of experience. If one looks hard enough one will find someone who had a catastrophic failure, and hundreds who haven't. The failures I have seen, judging from this forum, are those who have used piggybacks as opposed to a true tune.

Unless youā€™re making ridiculous power without supporting mods, Iā€™d say engine and tranny will be just fine. More likely to have issues with electronics or other auxiliary parts if this turns out to be similar to most bmws

Are you making that power on the stock turbo? I had my car dyno tuned using ecutech with an Active Autowerke catted DP, Eventuri CAI, and FTP charge pipe on the stock turbo.

I am making 493 whp and 612 wtq running an E50 tune. So far no problems. Although, when in comfort mode the new tune has the car shifting to higher gears even at low speeds. Don't have that problem in Sports mode.

I also have a 93 pump gas map that makes low 400 whp. I want to upgrade the turbo to a pure 800 but don't want my torque numbers to go up because I am at the max that I want to be with the torque. I don't want to stress my transmission. I want the E50 power on regular 93 pump gas. Don't want to run the car too much on the E50 tune as there could be long term effects to the fuel lines and fuel pump etc. The car was meant to run no higher than E25 based on the owners manual.

No Marin has a Pure800 if I'm not mistaken.

Oh ok thanks. Exactly what I want.
Yeah I make 700/700 wheel on my pure 800 with E54 (thats what was my pump typically has).

I was making around 525/645 or so on my stock turbo with e50 and meth.

The car was meant for 25% so i am not too bothered running 50%. I have ran 50+% ethanol for about 8-10k miles so far and havent had issues. Most modern cars dont have issues with the lines, and the filters seem fine. But some of the early gen DI pumps did struggle with the higher ethanol. But usually 30-50% ethanol is fine on those platforms, as some of them need the extra lubricating properties.

I plan to permanently run my car on ethanol and it is daily driven so if something goes wrong everyone will hear about it. But so far things are looking pretty positive!
