I still don't know how they plan to sell 25k of them without including North America. Not that we would buy a ton of them, but it's gonna take every bit of sales they can get to pull that off.

The wording of the rules makes it sound like maybe they only have to manufacture that many though, so I guess the sales could be spread out over a longer period of time.

Im pretty sure it is only about building 25K. Keep in mind also that at the Tokyo Auto Salon they also debuted a version that has the same body but none of the performance being just FWD and with a CVT that is hooked to a NA 1.5 L engine with 118 hp.

Nobody knows if that version will actually be built but it could be a possibility to reach that magic 25K number. I mean the actual GR Yaris will be handbuilt which takes 10 times as long a conventional mass-produced car according to Toyota themselves so that's another hurdle to overcome on the way to 25K.

In UK, you will be able to place your order for a GR Yaris at your local Toyota Centre on Friday 13th March 2020.

So I just reserved one online for myself. Don't know if that offer is Germany exclusive or not but they offer a special Leasing deal until 30.06. 344ā‚¬ for the High Performance Version in a 4 Year lease. The base version costs 298ā‚¬. No down payment.
They also go down 5K from the list price making it 28K for the base and 32K for the High Performance version.

That looks a like a good deal to me and way better than I expected. I feared I might have to wait for used ones to hit the market but now it looks like I don't have to. Still have to get things sorted with the dealer though since I was a bit too fast in making a buying decision and have to get that reverted if I wan to take that offer.

^^ The naming of this transmission (V16) is confusing but there is no way it is longitudinal in a small hatchback with a transverse engine. Toyota has displayed the chassis-less entire drivetrain which shows it is a transverse transmission.

What Iā€™d like to know is how related its R&D is to the 6-speed manual found in the current Corolla 6MT FWD.

It would seem to me as if that regular FWD-only 6MT would have had far less chance of being released had it not been for the development of the GR Yarisā€™ 6MT AWD gearbox.

I'm aware of all that I'm just curious who wrote that it's the V16 series transmission and why.
