It's been almost 5 years since this thing debut. I don't think its ever going to see the light of day. :(

I don't know how I missed this. I would definitely say the rumors of the car being an AMG GT competitor are coming to fruition. This is very similar to the AMG GT, with a space frame chassis and the entire motor behind the front subframe. Also this pretty much confirms an inline 6 will not be in this car due to lack of space (which means an A100 with an inline 6 in this chassis isn’t feasible either)

If we follow the link, this patent is also shown. This appears to be a cradle behind the cabin and with the transmission tunnel that tall and wide, I would guess a transaxle and/or electric motor(s)

^^ It seems so. That really sucks. Honestly they could power it by anything at this point and I'd be happy so long as the Miata and a higher end RX-7 style Mazda sports car are in their lineup.

Mazda has always demonstrated great ambitions at various times only for them to be short-lived or shelved before production.

If they're canning this then they'd better keep the Miata formula alive as pure as possible into the electrified era (which they should anyway even if they were to have gone ahead with this high end sportscar).

From the BestCar link (Google Translation):

"RX-VISION is decided to be stored !? Japan's world-class unreleased supercar"

"The Japanese automobile industry is basically premised on mass production and mass consumption, but so far many super sports cars and exotic models called super cars have been planned.

Since it is a very rare case that a small-lot production super sports car or super car will be released, there are many models of bad luck, but the ambition was magnificent.

Recently, I expected that Mazda's concept car RX-VISION will also appear under the name RX-9, but unfortunately there is a strong sign that it is in storage.

In this project, we collected the unfortunate Japanese super sports cars and super cars that were not released even though the world was paying attention."

"At the 44th Tokyo Motor Show in October 2015, Mazda's rotary sports concept "MAZDA RX-VISON" involved not only Mazda fans but almost all automobile fans in an enthusiastic pot.

Based on the classic sports car design of ultra-long nose and short deck, its modern form proved that Mazda's declaration "I want to make the most beautiful FR proportions in the world" was not fake..."

"The main specifications of RX-VISION are: passenger capacity: 2 people, wheelbase: 2700 mm, total length 4389 mm x total width 1925 mm x total height 1160 mm. The engine is equipped with SKYACTIV-R, the drive system is FR, tires: front 245 / 40R20, rear 285 / 35R20, rim: front 9.5J / rear 11J.

Weaving design motifs that make you feel the history of Mazda's sports cars everywhere, expressing Mazda's passion for sports cars that is still unchanged."

"Although the detailed specifications were unknown because it was a concept car, the official announcement that "equipped with the next-generation rotary engine" SKYACTIV-R "!" And "the drive system is FR!" Well, this must be the next RX-9! "

After that, there was a lot of excitement such as "The patent acquired for RX-9 has been released!" And "It seems that it will be released in 2020!", But after that, the message was completely lost.

There is no official announcement that "the development plan for RX-9 has been frozen", but even if it is frozen, there is no wonder that there is no communication.

Speaking of the official movements related to the next-generation rotary since the MAZDA RX-VISON was first unveiled at the 2015 Tokyo Motor Show, the compact SUV MX-30 will be used in sequence from the first half of 2022, using a rotary engine as a generator. It means that a model that adopts electrification technology will be introduced.

And the "RX VISION GT3 Concept" has "debuted" as a virtual race car for "Gran Turismo SPORT"."

"The "RX VISION GT3 Concept" debuted in 2020 at Gran Turismo SPORT. A popular one with a high-pitched rotary sound that becomes a habit once you hear it and excellent cornering performance"

"
This GT3 concept can be seen as "a part of the marketing strategy for the real RX-9 release", but the truth is in the bush.

I would like to expect the RX-9 to appear, but considering the current situation such as stricter fuel efficiency regulations, the hope that MAZDA RX-VISON will be "marketed according to the original concept" is about to be abandoned. Maybe it's better ..."

I still have hopes and dreams for this as a long time rotor head. Regardless of price, i'll get one!
