They also have patents with both a rotary and V engine entirely behind the front axle so who knows.

Just edited my previous post with the link to that patent application. This will come out in some car, whether it is the new Miata or the RX-9, time will tell.

Link to the JP patent application: https://patents.google.com/patent/JP2019165611A/en?oq=JP2019165611A (here is the PCT Application) https://patents.google.com/patent/WO2019181934A1/en?oq=JP2019165611A) This car is likely coming in some car one way or another.

If a real z4 looked like that, there would be something to think about but yea... won't hold me breath over it.

Even if that was the real deal, there is no way it'd be a z4. It'd require a new line z6 or z8.... (yes, z8 existed before...) because it looks as sexy/sporty (with flaws) as an Aston.. and then actually it'd not be fair to Z-line, so maybe BMW Y, but with Tesla Model Y, probably not, so some other letter :)

Why not 6 series?

There was once a time when the 6 series based off the Z4/Supra's architecture was planned to target the 911 (which is why the current 8 series is the size as the former 6 series) but never came to fruition.

Strangely enough a render of a BMW coupe with Supra styling exists well before Supra prototypes existed.

Edit: Forgot to link article. Notice how this was about a year before we first saw Supra mules.

for sure 6 as well. wheel base seemed shorter in the OP's picture, but looking at yours as well, why not. well it's a fantasy right now anyhow.
