I'm not sure where you're going with this.

I didn't know that a MR2 successor was overruled by Akio. Toyoda-san said he wanted the three brothers. I wonder what the third one is.
Nothing... :p

Yeah, it was also posted in the old interview thread. After seeing the C8 I bet Akio had wished he listened to Tada...

https://www.topspeed.com/cars/car-news/the-toyota-supra-was-almost-mid-engined-ar182549.html

While talking to Top Gear, the Supraā€™s lead engineer, Tetsuya Tada, said that his team used the mid-engine Porsche Cayman as the benchmark for its handling and overall performance while building the new Supra.

They were so impressed that Tada even considered making the new Supra mid-engine like the Cayman, but the boss seemed unimpressed and shut the idea as soon as it was run by him.

The Cayman is also the reason why the Supra has the engine at the front. Interestingly, BMW had no objections and was happy to go ahead with the idea of a mid-engined car. ā€œWe stuck with front engine because of feel and control. We know how to control a front-engine car, we already have that capability. In the planning stages we suggested a mid-engined layout and BMW was happy to go with it, but I took the idea to Akio Toyoda and he told me offā€, said Tetsuya Tada.
Imagining what could have been. :(

Well isn't a Supra supposed to be a front-engined, RWD car though? I wouldn't be surprised if he shut it down because of that.

Also I won't lie that render is hot. Hope they make a MR2 that looks like that.

Isn't a Vette also suppose to be front engine and a GTR an I6? Things change over time bud ;)

Not owning one yet (will next year finally:spaz:) but after driving 3.0 for quite a lot of time:
Like:
1. Handling - car is lively, predictable, quite communicative. Ofc its not as sharp as old n/a sports cars but imo its the best out of the new breed of turbo modern sports cars.
2. Looks - looks epic in person imo, like a more expensive, exotic car.
3. Engine - fantastic BMW motor. The response, sound, the power delivery. Joy to use.
4. Gearbox - its just great. Its good enough to convince me to get one despite driving manual GT86. The auto mode is suprisingly good in gear choise. Its not PDK fast but just a step behind.
5. Daily comfort - its really refined as daily and great if you wanna just go around without tension, great for longer trips. Interior is also nice but shame its so dark, would love some bright option.

LessLike:
1. Body roll - 2much body motion for my taste. I know a lot of people enjoy this feel, thats why MX5 and A110 is praised for being lively. But its not for me. I like sports cars being flat in corners, more racy, but its nothing stiffer sway bars and stiffer springs cant fix ;) I like overall handling characteristics but it needs bit of personall refinement.
2. Visibility - imo its bad. Especially sides and back.
3. Sitting position - I would like to sit even lower. Also I dont think sport car like this needs 100 way adjustable seats, I'd prefer lighter, smaller ones. But I have to admitt - they are comfortable for daily. I will probably do more hardcore seat for driver in my car.
4. Unnescessary weight - heavy seats, heavy sound system behind the seats (yeah I know why its there), heavy battery... I'd get rid of if to save some kgs :) Lower weight and feel > comfort features
5. I dont know. Yellow paint is non-metalic?

Overall great package :flame:

A Supra is whatever car they put the badge on. It was Tada who put a strict definition on the Supra is 'supposed' to be. The FT-HS, a V6 hybrid, could have been the 5th gen Supra if it weren't for a recession.

Iā€™m surprised you think the seat should go lower. Iā€™m 5ā€™ 10ā€ and I canā€™t see over the dash easily with the seat at the lowest which I what I usually like.

I'm 188cm and I got like 1cm to the roof with seat on lowest setting :D Also, the perception of sitting low in GT86, S2000 or Cayman is amplified compared to Supra, I'd love to go additional 2-3cm down.

BTW cool photos on insta ;)

Have you tried some kind of cushion/pad?

A Supra is also suppose to have 6 cylinders too, but we all know how that turned out overseas and with the upcoming 2021s.. :p

Name me a car that has been rejuvenated after a long ass time of not building the car without help, has been a total success and everyone wins at the end financially all at the same time? None.

Porsche got help from Toyota when they've started building the Boxster for the first time too. Look where they are now. Toyota's help allowed Porsche to turn from shambles into a financially strong brand.
Like your post. What do you think of the Mach 1 being rejuvenated after, what, 17 years? Iā€™m kinda digging it.
