Why wouldn't we?
Coz for the Supra there were rumours about 2.0 from the start and from "insiders" and which engine it will be, Cayman always had low power and higher power versions etc.
Here its not a "leak", its just "yeah they got it in 2 power trims at Infniti, maybe they throw it here". I thought its some kind of new insider leak or something.

On the other hand it would be smart to do so, Supra has 2.0, so does Mustang, Camaro, 718, FType...
Its the matter of price honestly. Mustang sells so well around the world not because its great sports car, coz imo its a heavy boat with unrefined gearbox, but it sells coz it gives a lot of power for cheap. For example 2.0 Supra costs here 47k Euro, while 3.0 costs 71k. Price this 300hp Nissan at no more than 40k Euro and it will sell like hot cakes.

Anyone else holding off on the Supra until we see the new Z? The latest info from BestCar says the VR30DDTT will come in two tunes; one with 300hp and 400hp. I tend to trust BestCar given their history of the Supra shown below the Z render.

I am not following. Are you questioning the legitimacy of the 300hp Z being a 6 cylinder? I don't think Nissan has a longitudinal 4 cylinder anymore since they are no longer using the Mercedes 4 cylinder. It isn't out of the realm of possibility that they develop one, but given Nissan's current state I think that is rather unlikely

Also, if this render is accurate, this car is already boring looking, miles behind the Supra imo...
Sports car should be exotic, flashy, not tonned down. Not sold on this but will wait for full car release.

No no, I think 300hp version sounds good coz competition offers one so it would be smart to get more sales. And it prob will be V6 indeed.
Just wondered where did it came from, coz I follow the new Z news and didnt hear about 300hp yet, most rumours say base 400 and NISMO 450+ right out of the gate.

Even if rumors donā€™t suggest it, I think thereā€™s a high possibility of atleast a 300hp and 400hp variant at launch since they have already been emissions tested and are ready to go.

Oh man, I just realized, from the 1st post: "the latest info from BestCar says the VR30DDTT will come in two tunes; one with 300hp and 400hp." So there it comes from, BestCar. How did I miss it lol.... :banghead::banghead::banghead:

Supra bias aside, these drawings aren't doing it for me looks wise. That rear end looks like too much mismatch of retro and modern imo. I think the Z has a good shot at selling well though, simply by offering a manual and if it comes in below 50k, that's a pretty good breakpoint to stay under to attract buyers. I would be most interested in seeing how many people who didn't buy the MkV - because of no manual, BMW collab, etc, - consider the Z.

What sort of overheard do you think the Z is going to have though? We also need to consider power delivery too, for all we know, something there could hold back the safe power limit as well and having to upgrade that is also an added cost.

As far as a head to head goes, for me, the aesthetics are the biggest limiter for me, as well as the interior, but I will wait for the car to be out officially to have a final judgement. I'd honestly rather have a car that looks a bit better than one that performs a bit better, because I'm not buying a track car. Barring any major platform issues, either car can gain performance, but the interior and basic body shape is much more difficult to change.

Although I haven't elaborated too much, I know a hell of a lot about this program dating back to 2018 approval the cost of roughly $240 million and...touch on it later.

Cool, good for you. Some of us are waiting to see what Nissan has to offer in both pricing and packaging so we can see which car offers a better value vs just buying something because of a nameplate.

i think the rumored 400hp for less than $40k was a little exaggerated. its probably the 300hp version that will start out in the mid to high $30k. iirc A70 said $50k. i'm assuming that will be the more powerful version.
Right, but you're probably going to get more than just an extra 100hp. Bigger brakes and tires, suspension upgrades, nicer interior pieces here and there ect.

I totally respect this viewpoint, and I agree with it in alot of situations, however with sports cars I think that people probably value brand/nameplates alot more, especially with sports cars.

"Value" of a car is still often subjective because time has shown us that it's very difficult to make a car do everything perfectly. For example, if you were to ask which of the big 3 US sports cars provides the best value, even then, you'd have to specify what matters to you. If you want strict hp per dollar, you're probably going to get a Dodge Challenger, if you value handling, maybe the Camaro, if you value good comfort and what I'd say the most daily driveable, you'd probably choose the Mustang. And that's assuming you have no brand bias whatsoever. Not to mention there's tons of options/trims for these cars alone.

Not trying to outright discredit your position or discourage you from buying the Z, but I think it's hard to objectively quantify value, when value itself is a variable for most people. For me the most important thing in "value" is 1) can you actually afford it and 2) is it what you want? As always, I'm glad that a new Z is coming because it's another car that isn't focused on self-driving, electrification, or some other non-performance factor.

Sorry for long post, but I just felt that it's important to consider that sports cars are not easy to boil down into various checkboxes and that I think it's totally fine to value brand/nameplate so long as you aren't bashing other options on the market for simply being "Not my brand"

^Likewise, I respect everyone's choices. Yes and no, sales of the Cayman dropped pretty bad when the Supra arrived on the scene despite it having the P badge. I think the Supra was a much better buy that the base 2.0 Cayman. Cheaper, two more cylinders, and sounds way better.

To keep things short, if Nissan offers the base 300hp with a manual for $40k or less I'm most likely going to pick it over the $43k 2.0 auto only Supra.

So far I'm not too excited about the styling. I've never been a fan of the overt retro-throwback look, but will continue to hold out.. That said, a turbo, RWD, manual absolutely has my interest piqued.
