for people that are unhappy with the 2020 supra, yea the new one has a bump in whp, but seriously the 2020 supra has been a huge success in tuning scene, multiple supras are running 9s on the strip. Be happy with what you have because there will always be a faster car.
The 2021 supra news was a little sour taste, but then knowing that 2020 supras have been easy to tune car sits well in my stomach.
If I had the choice, I would still choose my 2020 because the formula for 2020 works well, so why change something that is already good. Yea sure it can be better, but I'm happy with my #448.
And if you bought your supra as an "investment" then you must be fooling your wife because you buy a sports car to drive it, if you want investment go buy a property or a business.

Also... property can lose value too (significantly if you remember the last financial collapse) and businesses can fail completely (as they are in this financial collapse). There's always a risk of loss, but few are as much fun as depreciating my Supra with unnecessary mileage has been.

Travis: The first time I drove the six- cylinder, last year, it was on pristine roads and at Lime Rock Park, a smooth track. I dug it. But Iā€™ve driven it since, and the chassis and suspension just donā€™t react well to rough roads. This newest version, with more horsepower, still feels disjointed on a tight, bumpy backroad. Thereā€™s no steering feel and the rear end provides no confidence over bumps. It bounces all over the place. But the engine is burly, robust. Not anemic. And the four, for whatever reason, feels like itā€™d be the Supra for poseurs, even if itā€™s the better one to drive.

Bob: Man, thatā€™s the other thing. Toyota gave the six-cylinder 47 more horsepower and I swear I canā€™t feel it. Last yearā€™s car was plenty quick. We measured 0-60 in 3.9 seconds. The new one does not feel any quicker to me. Do you feel a difference?

Travis: Not even a little bit.

Bob: I think I know why. They gave it 47 more horsepower. Guess how much the torque increased.

Travis: Is it none? None more torque?

Bob: Pretty much. Three lb-ft. Youā€™re probably exerting more torque by turning the steering wheel. And the steering in the 3.0 is too twitchy. Nearly 50 more horsepower didnā€™t make the car any more engaging. The 2.0 feels more natural, but the engine is dull. This is heresy, but I donā€™t think a stick shift could solve this carā€™s problems.

The story of how I bought my '20 Supra is kind of funny. I was so curious about the marked-up pricing I started calling dealers around and asking what their pricing was. As we all know most of them said 20-25k over MSRP. A few of them had "auction style bidding" ...very few in my area had anything less than 10k. The lowest I found was 7k over MSRP. This was right at the end of July, 2019.

I went into investigation mode as to why this car was so hyped up. Investigation turned into watching first drive reviews, forum posts, and revisiting the pre-production news. I had accidentally sold myself on this car. Then by the following Sunday I got off work early and had some extra time so I decided to check the car out in person. The next day, I had driven home in my new '20 Supra lol.

With that said, I knew about the 2021 power bump before I bought mine. Not sure why I didn't really care. I guess I was so excited and really wanted one, and at the time everything lined up to put me in a position to purchase one so I did.

I'm also planning to keep mine stock, mainly because it is plenty powerful for me, but I typically do not mod my cars. Planning to keep this car a long time. I'm in the market for a house so am saving up. Once I have a mortgage I won't be able to afford a car like this so I'm really happy that I'll be able to have a "fast car" in my stable without it being a financial burden.

What rings true with me is that the MY20 was a better drive away price than the MY21 and I did not want to wait.
As it will be a street car only and the tune on various MY20's achieving excellent 400HP+ gains, it was a simple decision to go with the MY20 at the end of the day.

+2 ; Also plan to keep this car also for a very long time; can't wait to get it next week.
Very exciting :)

Sadly, printing an opinion piece that will create maximum controversy is pretty much the rule of the day. Throes of death for traditional media. Good riddance.

Also, heā€™s one of those Miata people, which is almost certainly coloring his opinion. Definitely take even less stock in what he says knowing that.

Miata's are fun cars to drive in small space, but for me they are just too wimpy slow where I take my cars out for a weekend drive. This is also true for the 86/BRZ.

Miata's are fun cars to drive in small space, but for me they are just too wimpy slow where I take my cars out for a weekend drive. This is also true for the 86/BRZ.
Iā€™m just saying people who latch on to cars of that ilk are all about the balance and ā€œhandlingā€, and mostly want lightweight throw around vehicles. Itā€™s an odd benchmark but they generally unfairly apply it to just about everything.

How is it odd when its "the" benchmark? If carbon was cheap we would have had it in every sports car possbile, for lightness. Every supercar tries to be as light as possible, every track version is even lighter, every race car is as light as possible, GT4 Supra is also over 150kg lighter.
Everyone would prefer 1300kg 400hp Supra over 1500kg, its obvious.
Im all about balance and handling too, thats why I drive 86, thats why I understand someone can prefer lighter 2.0 Supra. And there are a lot of opinions from various testers that 2.0 is indeed nicer handling car. Ofc it dsnt have the sound or "the go" from 3.0 but speed is not always most important. We want sports car to have great handling, being natural, being more raw, be lighter. Obtaining speed is easier than ever these days, every higher end premium car is under 5s to 60mph. But on the other hand everything is getting fatter and fatter.

Lighter, less powerfull car > heavier, more powerfull

We definitely donā€™t agree - even on the claim that you own a light car. Truly light tiny cars, like an Elise is just under 2000 pounds. The fallacy that small weight reductions are wildly differentiating is silly. Some people make these claims about cars that driver weight can negate! Anyhow, the fact that this editor is a card carrying Miata zealot makes me super unenthusiastic about his opinions.

1250kg is quite light for a modern sports car that is not stripped like Lotus, isnt it? Everything is 1500kg or more nowadays...

He apperciates the lightness that MX5 gives. Personally I dont like MX5 coz of its floaty suspension, I dont like body roll and that car is full of it. I just get his point of view. And 100kg is not small reduction. And in 2.0 there is still room to shred even some more weight.
Dont count driver, coz U needa add it to every other car too so its irrelevant.

You guys making these arguments defending your light cars are actually confirming the point I was making (thanks for not seeing the forest from the trees). My point is there are two camps, and the guy in the article is a light car guy which biases him away from cars like the 3.0.

I donā€™t care to argue about which is better - itā€™s a ā€œreligiousā€ topic and weā€™re not in agreement. I never had any intention of engaging in that debate.

Also, not counting the driver? I weigh 150 lbs. If you hypothetically weigh 350 lbs I think that would matter...
