I'm planning to wrap my side door garnish a matte black, but i feel like it would be so much easier if i remove it first. need help because i havent seen any step by step on how to remove them and dont want to risk breaking anything. Please help.

i think if i remember reading correctly somewhere they said you have to remove the 2 bolts holding it in by pulling back on the weather stripping and then the rest is all clipped on but required a bit of force to pull it off

Yes remove 2 screws under the inside weather strip and pull it off. Tape around it if youre going to use a trim tool so you don't scratch the paint

If you look at the molding guide on this string it works.. use a molding tool to pull it. you will most likely break one or two clips so be prepared with new ones. in addition one portion of the garnish has 3M adhesive not really needed but if you want perfection have it on hand.

you don't need to remove weather strip to get to 2 bolts. you will see holes for those Torx screws behind weather strips. Once removed, you can prop it out with some "careful" force. watch out for retainers and foam gromat around plastic retainers. It may fly around as you pop it out and you may loose it. you can also remove inner black piece to get better coverage. you will also need double sided tape as well.

Does anyone on here know what the part number is for the clips? I am holding off on installing my new carbon trim piece as I’m afraid I will definitely break a few clips. Can’t seem to find what the part number is to order from Toyota.

I believe it's 90118-WA439. I did not have single retainer broken as i was doing this like in 85 F. I was more concerned on molding pad, part# 75969-WAA01. but this can be replaced /w padded double side tape.

Thank you! I submit an order request for the clips, but I couldn’t find that molding pad you mentioned. That part number didn’t exist?

Cheers,

Hey everyone!

So my buddy and I finished installing the P2uned Carbon door garnishes yesterday. I ended up filming everything, and now I am editing the video and will upload to YouTube in a day or two.

So let me just say a few things up front.

  • Do not worry about breaking clips or adhesive. I did not manage to break any clips, and I was very nervous and patient the entire time.
  • If you are able to, do the removal of the stock garnish on a very hot day. This helps with the adhesive to loosen up and helps with the flexibility of the clips.
  • You DO NOT need to remove the weather strip on the door to remove the two bolts on the top section of the door. You can if you want, it will make it a bit easier, but honestly there is no need. I recommend using an extended torque bit/attachment that is magnetized as well.
  • There are indeed 14 clips on each door, and you will need to use a little bit of force with a trim tool to pop off, and I do recommend following the sequence mentioned in tadda's post.
  • The aftermarket carbon replacement only uses two of the 14 clips from the stock garnish, so unless you are planning on keeping the stock part to "go back to stock" in the future, you have plenty of clips to go through.
  • Not sure about any other aftermarket garnish, but we had to make some cuts and adjustments in a couple places where the two screws and clips transfer over. Nothing major, but just expect there to be some custom cutting, at least with the P2uned garnishes. I will say, the fitment in general from these guys was pretty perfect.
Hope this helps out until I get a video out soon.

I will get some better photos on here soon as well. Got pretty tied up last night after completing the install.

Cheers,
-V
