no issue with the car up to this point then suddenly shortly after startup, the nav screen went to “starting navigation system”, the satellite radio wont turn on, and the hud will not display speed limit. Obviously the three have the nav antenna or the idrive system in common.

i looked around some bmw forums and see in some cases it is an update for the nav which will resolve itself. In other cases it is a failed part of the nav system.

anyone ever run into anything like this?

Sure enough mysteriously resolved itself in about 30 mins, strange right?

Mine had to update maps once, then it restarted and became available again. Definitely couldn't do anything during the update and restart time but don't recall if I had music on or not.

Maybe something like that or some sort of derivative OTA update?

When it was updating did it say it was updating or was it stuck at a starting nav screen?

Really putting my memory to a test. I was driving, so I wouldn't hold me to it 100% but I believe it was on the starting nav screen for a few minutes after it went dark. I don't recall any kinda "update in progress" screen or anything like that.

Wish I paid better attention.

When mine did updates it asked first stating that an update was available and whether or not to do it right then. I always did the update right then but I guess if you turned the car off or interrupted the update before it was completed it could possibly try to complete/reinstall the update once the car was started back up again which would could contribute to the issues mentioned above.

But it did not ask ... which is why my original post did not say “stuck updating”
