but i assume it did work for just powering the camera system

maybe he can chime in....
Yes it will work when you have the car running but you cannot leave anything plugged into the obd2 and try to lock the car the alarm will go off.

Yeah if your MX+ is OK, then I can't imagine the camera is going to be doing much more. Please update with results. If it does work without issue, it definitely makes the installation far easier. Looking forward to seeing how it turns out!
I was all ready for installation...until UPS lost my shipment. Can't stand that company as, on average, they lose 1 out of 3 packages in a well-developed residential area. So either a replacement or refund is in order. @$#^(^!

As I said above, it doesn't mind the ODBII plugged in 24/7. So...

The extra battery wiring isnt such a big deal.
You’ll need to run wiring to the rear camera anyway.
With the battery you have the added bonus it will record in carparks of grocery store parking lots where ppl might bump into your car when you ain’t there.

Putting the power and rear camera cable together has given me zero issues so far in 3 installs i did. So you can do it on 1 side to make it an easier install.

but a massive thanks for writing such a detailed DIY!!!
Very very helpfull as i havent done my Supra yet.

I ordered a Blackvue and found their EZ OBD connector and so I'll try it after it arrives.
Project finished. I toggled the ez obd2 connector for 6-hour shutoff (lowest) last night. For the sake of safety, I attached a 4-amp battery charger. This morning, the cam was shut-down as I expected it to be. By shaking the suspension it came out of 'hibernation' also as expected.

This completes my testing of this device. It works as advertised.

Thanks. Helpful writeup. I installed one of these: https://vantrue.net/Goods/detail/gid/68.html

I used the 12 volt power point in the boot, since hardwire seems to be an issue for the car.

I had to remove the bolt on the boot lid hinge to get the wire to pass through. Unfortunately, this necessitated realignment of the boot lid after the install. Wire/plug might have been larger than Blackvue (was a USB mini-B).

Also found it helpful to use a Torx 20 to loosen and reattach the adapter for the brake light (?) to more easily fit the rear wire behind it.

Small correction, the Torx bolts for the headliner were 30 not 35.

Thanks again.

Thank you for the DIY @jgoad13 ! I'm going to be working on this over the weekend.

Just make sure to run the wiring behind the curtain airbag. You do not want any possible obstruction in the case of an accident.
Does anyone know how to pry open the A-pillar? I do want to run the wiring behind the airbag as I've done in my BRZ and GTI, but not sure if there's anything I should be aware of in the Supra.

I just tapped into F273 for my dashcam and noticed that my vanity mirror/sun visor lights stopped working. The front cigarette socket still works but oddly just the vanity lights are out. Anyone else notice this with their setup?

Did you blow the fuse? If your camera draws too much current its a problem for that location. Also be sure the fuse tap is setup correctly. Factory fuses go on the inside and accessories on the outside.

If the OEM factory fuse, say 5 amps, is on the inside, you’ll need a 4 amp fuse (or less) on the outside. This can be confusing. In this way, your accessory fuse (cam) will blow without causing the OEM device to blow too.

I only offer this advice to those who may not normally work with this stuff.

Blowing a fuse is the most obvious reasoning and I’ll have to go through the interior fuses to check. The confusing part is how a fuse for the cigarette lighter in the trunk would blow a fuse in the passenger footwell that’s for something different.

For my fuse tap, I have the cam fuse closest to the wire and factory fuse closest to the prongs which I believe is the same thing you’re saying.
Factory fuse is 20 amps and cam is 10 amps.

I’ve seen the fuse schematics and know which ones the interior lights are but any chance someone knows exactly which one is for the visor lights?

Yes that is confusing. It does sound as if you’ve fused the tap correctly.

Nobody has yet to step forward with these fuse IDs. As example, there are six fuses (front panel) labeled as ‘courtesy light’ but which fuse location governs which courtesy light is still a mystery.

Well it looks like I’ll be having some fun going through the various fuses when it stops raining here.
