People do these for parts so I figured I would do a quick review of my experience with getting Ecutek stage 1 flash tune from one of our sponsors – Visconti tuning.
TL;DR - Smooth experience, car runs great/smooth – you can definitely tell the difference. Would not hesitate to do business with them again.
Longer version: My only experience of getting a tune is shipping my 4th gen F-body’s ECU to some dude in the middle of America then receiving it back about a week and a half later. This wasn’t like this at all. I was poking around the forum and the internet general in regard to getting a tune for my pretty much stock Supra (eventuri intake is the only mod so far). I wasn’t set on any software in particular and was trying to see what was best. It’s fair to say I knew very little in regard to tunes. I chimed in couple of threads to dig up some information from more experienced members and eventually got in contact with Marshall from Visconti Tuning. He answered some more of my super newb questions and reassured me that they weren’t going to just sell me the software and then expect me to know what to do with it. To be fair, that’s what I expected because this is the internet (skeptical by nature and profession) ... Overall, communication was really good, he always provided quick answers and provided actual answers to my questions without any kind of BS.
Anyways, bought Visconti’s Ecutek kit on Friday afternoon which included their OTS map. Had it at my door on Saturday mid-morning. On Sunday night it was go time. The part that made me the most nervous was by far the easiest for me – the actual tune part. After I connected to the car, John, the tuner, remotely logged in and did whatever needed to be done and we were all done in about ~25 minutes. John then stayed on the phone while I did a little test drive around the neighborhood.
It’s been about a week since the tune and I’ve put on maybe only ~150 miles on the car (drive on the weekends mostly) but I can definitely tell the difference. I can also attest to the fact that the car still runs smoothly and there are no other issues of any kind. At least so far but I hope it stays that way.
The most difficult part was installing ProEcu but that was only difficult because I live in an apartment building and you need wi-fi while you’re connected to the car. I ended up driving to my friend’s garage to do this but it’s actually an easy process if you have wi-fi.
My gf was in the car with me for the entire process and at the end of the test drive one of the only things she said was “Can he do that to my car??” Maybe a future customer
Overall, a good experience and I would not hesitate to contact them again when the needs arise again
