That's how I felt! Like I just paid 25K for a 90's car.
That's what I love about the 86, but also why I never got one. There's not much that I truly enjoy in new cars. The 90's cars got a lot right and to have a new car that feels like that is very appealing.... but I spent about $5k on a 240sx instead and figured that was close enough.

sporadic doesn't mean non existent, but there was the DI seals thing, the cam gear seizing, the fuel pump, and I'm probably forgetting one or two more.

I'm not hating on the car, I'm just saying new cars have issues... as you said, I believe most of those things if not all have been corrected.

EDIT: yeah, trans issues was the other thing (there were several different problems within that general umbrella)
I agree there were issues but for a new coupe I look back at the 86's launch positively. there are so many other sports car models that have far more problems even after multiple generations.

The minor "annoyances" with the 86 makes it feel much more like a machine, qualities that get engineered out...screw those that wanted a softer ride, rattle free interior, sound insulation, etc :bat:

Nice that where I'm located. What dealership took this order for you? I called around and haven't been able to place my name down for anything.

Nice to see a local on the forums as well

Completely agree with you. I bought one of the first ones in BC with a real early build date and the two years I owned it had multiple issues. My FRS felt more like a 90s car than my Supra with all the odd rattles and issues it had.
No dealership, family friend with a dealship license. Technically it's honda ordering it for me haha

Isn't that what they were going for?
Yes and no, but my 90's Integra didn't have the windows get stuck constantly, rusting within a year, completely seized suspension components after only 2 winters. among other things. I loved driving the car, and my friends 14 BRZ did not have a lot of thee small issues I had. Either way it was a fun car, but I don't regret getting rid of it and replacing it with an MKIV :)

They were going for the driving feel of a 90s car which they got but the build quality felt like shit. 4 sets of leaking tail lights, constant popping noises from trunk weld pinch and cam sensor issues made this car more headache than fun and it was a really fun car. I never looked back on getting a Supra instead and don' t regret it at all. FRS was a great car but I felt we weren't meant to be so cursed

Got a 2015 86 and super happy with it. I'll probably do the same when I get my MKV, when the hype dies down I'll jump on board. I personally hate when you get all sorts of people pointing at your car or taking pics while you sit in traffic just so they can post a pic in the spotted forum thread.

I've been thinking of getting an 86, simply because owning a Supra is too damn risky!

Hey Haros, I put a deposit down on one with a Vancouver Toyota Dealership Sept/17 so should be ahead of you...
We'll see! It's a race then. On the slow ship...
Let me know when you get an options list. The first ones come factory optioned, but as it stands I have no idea what it is.
With the honda type R I knew the colour and that was it.

Also I find it strange they took a deposit from you... how much did they ask for?
Thats not usually the norm around BC in my experience, unless they physically have a car allocated from factory for you. I wasn't even asked to put money down on the first year focus RS for the list.
Once they start making calls from the list is when you put money down, or they know for sure one is one the way.

Audi and BMW offer a service for free, where after the dealer submits your order you get a purchase number that allows you to go online and follow your build progress, then when it leaves the factory, then track on a boat as it travels to North America and in some cases when it arrives at your local dealer. (go on an Audi forum and search) This is a very cool and exciting way for the buyer to keep excited and on top of his purchase and really enjoy the whole experience. I have not bought a new Toyota before, have they ever offered this? If not they should, as that it would be very well received...

And you are paying for that luxury as part of your BMW or Audi premium....

I doubt Toyota really cares if anyone's excited about buying their appliances, as long as people keep buying them. It would be very surprising if they made this tracking service available. Now if the Supra was a Lexus, then maybe...

I cant say for BMW but just recently I almost signed on the dotted line for a new RS3...and there was zero cost to track your order
